399 How to shit in the woods, Gotta Go Skirts and Help for Hikers and Motorists. And change clothes hiding behind big towels.

Years ago from a camping shop in the USA we bought a book entitled How To Shit In The Woods. I was not keen on the vulgar four letter word but the subject was important and I had not seen anybody else deal with it. Woods can be a problem, though you have trees. But people can suddenly appear from all directions on nearby paths.

TIPS

1 First Solution - Umbrellas

If forests look bad for loo-hunting, even worse comes later, last minute leaks impending, desperate decisions needed near the car park.  Sign posts to distant restaurants, monuments, everything except toilets. I must go now, before the group arrives, or we drive off along a route. Now here we are at the end of the path or trek, I have managed to hold it in all the way. However, here we are near car parks, and potential passers-by. 

1 The first thing you need to hide behind is a large umbrella. You need a large umbrella, the bigger the better.

Even with two of you, and one family member or friend as a lookout for strangers, you might prefer to remain unseen by your companion.

Tips

Pack a large umbrella - yes, the larger the better, one which can stand on its own, high enough and wide enough to conceal you and not roll over or blow away.

What Else?

2 Zip lock bags for waste. (Same as for pets.)

3 Wet wipes

You want tissue paper or wet wipes and to avoid leaving a tell tale and disgusting mess behind a plastic bag.

The next is to avoid doing a number two or revealing the smell of excreta or blood from a period (menstruation) around animals which might attack - even a dog. 

So, force yourself to go in hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, public toilets, after every meal stop. Last thing at night. First thing in the morning. 

Timing Toilet Breaks

To avoid delaying a group of people, go early in your meal stop if you want a longer time. Do a quick catch up toilet stop at the end.

4 Hand sanitizer.

If you run out of wet wipes, or don't want to have to dispose of them.

5 Gotta go skirt

Also look for Skorts.

Shorts and swimsuits can be awkward to unbutton, lower, remove, when in a hurry or if you don't have both hands free. They can also be revealing when undone.

6 DIY Divided skirts

Culottes or wrap skirts are another solution. You want to be able to lift your skirt over your shoulders to avoid it getting wet when you wee and to stop it from dragging in the dirt or picking up nettles and thorns and prickly leaves and twigs and debris when you bend down.

You can go to the toilet standing up. But you need to practise over a toilet at home to be sure to avoid wetting your thighs, calves, or ankles or sandals/boots.

Have a wonderful wee wee. Or wee wee-wee. (Wee is Scottish for small.)

Pack a small swimsuit. You can sit in a stream or wee in a waterfall. (Some people think the sound of running water makes you want to wee. Nurses turn on the tap in a hospital to get you to wee. At least it hides the tinkling sound.)

But how do you change into a swimsuit? Easy, wear it underneath your clothes. But what do you do after it is wet? How do you take it off?

A large bath towel can be used to hide behind. If you have a companion this is easy.

7 Open gusset for adults and children

 I noticed the children's version in China.
