Kimono wth zip sewn in, dress 237

I had a Japanese kimono in cotton with a pretty red pattern. I never wore it. Wraparound is not a good look or feel for me. I have one dropped shoulder after breaking my clavicle in a road traffic accident. I feel indiscreet with a gap at the front, and have to constantly re-tie the belt, which is a nuisance. I new what I needed was a zip. i sewed zips into two towelling bathrobes which I use when I got to swim. (I wear them on alternate days to let them dry out).

Long zips are hard to come by. I saw a discarded folding mattress with a zip-off cover. The zip was just what I needed. White, Perfect. I cut it out.

I sewed it in. Simple sewing. A straight line up and down. It was not an open-ended zip. However, it was long enough for me to climb into the garment.

Period Pants from Marks & Spencer & More, post 345

Period pants from Savida. Pants, UK. In the USA they would be called underpants. They come in two colours, black or dark blue with a mottled effect. They are triple layer. Could be useful for hiking and travelling. Or when you have a cough.  A pack of three full briefs for fifteen pounds. I then googled period pants and found lots of results.  Marks Marks & Spencer do a pack of three containing three different colours, black, white and pink, for sixteen pounds.  They also do different absorbencies. The options range though light, heavy, and extra heavy. And more styles, such as pantaloon style, like short tight shorts coming half way down your thighs. Marks & Spencer coat reversed Post 409

If a coat has a label at the neck which shows, or one on the side seam, you could either cut it off or cover it with black ribbon sewn on. Some people, such as the royal family, are reputed to always include a funeral outfit in their packing in case it is needed. (I always pack a swimsuit, so as not to miss out, and an evening outfit, in case I get invited to a party or wedding or smart restaurant for dinner.)
