Thread beads on elastic thread to make a bracelet. Post 302.

  1. I was looking for beads to add to the elastic string which had only half a dozen tiny red beads and one larger star on an elastic thread. In my sewing box I found a packet of small pearl beads which are made in New Zealand.

  2. At first threading them was difficult, in poor light at night. I could not easily find and see the hole.

  3. When I found the hole, the thread would not go through.  i was trying to push the thread through from the right with my right hand.

  4. I wet the end of the fraying thread. One success. Now it was a matter of persisting.

  5.  I discovered that it was easier to thread if the hole was on top of the bead. You pshed the thred downwards.
  6. tie the elastic with a secure knot. You can push the two ends back inside the bead if te hole is large enough. Or buy a bead designed to conceal thread knots.
You can use the bracelet to hold down a loose cuff.

Now I had red beads on one side, for daytime. The smaller, subtler pearly beads on the other side for evening. Having the beads added to the thread half way round it make the whole item smaller. The bracelet did not slip about.

You can buy a bead stopper. I used a paper clip.

I was inspired to want to make more bracelets. How about a wider two string bracelet? You can separate them and connect them at intervals, to make a two strang braclet. A bead company has a video.

I also watched another video by Amy Romeu, about useing glue and pliers to shut the crimp over thread.

Coloured beads come from Shein (also Temu and others)
You can buy threads in a see-though plastic, or coloured elastic. You buy beads in sets of 20, 50, 75, 100. If the thread breaks, never mind, you have more thread and more beads.
