Peachy orange outfit dress of the day 420, broderie anglaise, from St Luke's

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing an orange dress. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I bought this orange summer dress in winter in the one pound box of unsold items in St Luke's. Firstly it was in my latest favourite colour, orange. The orange colour, with pink, has taken over from red as my favourite colour. A second attraction was that the dress had my favourite broderie anglaise on the hem. Taking photos of oneself is a useful exercise. The bad photos are as useful as the good ones. Bad photos warn you of what needs fixing. I can see from this photo that the black underslip or black leggings show through the broderie anglaise. Instead of intensifying the orange colour, the black makes it look murky, dirty, dusty. White or orange would be better. Anyway, the dress was a success. Alongside the orange roses, still out at the end of November and the start of December In London. My husband commented on the colours, "A peachy dress, a peachy girl, a peachy wife."  Shop Locations St Luke's ...

Costa Rica Hat Painted With Butterfly Design, post 419

Image
Colourful painting at the World Travel Market at ExCel, London. November 2024. Costa Rica is in Central America. Rica means rich in Spanish, the noun coming after the adjective, the opposite to English grammar. But you can think of the country's name as a reminder of the language and grammar. (Similar to Puerto Rico meaning rich port, the island in the Caribbean.) I asked the painter to do red. He did an orangey red. That was good enough. I also like orange. He spoke Spanish. But somebody standing nearby translated. To wear it in summer, I need to add a ribbon to hold it on. I was very pleased with my hat. A great introduction to Costa Rica and reminder of the country.

Diana in Me+Em, outfit 418

Image
Diana in ME+EM photo by Angela Lansbury. Me+Em outfits were famous when worn by two famous UK personalities. Dressed up for lunch at the Wine Society lunch. In 100% Cashmere.  Notice the alliteration present from my husband for our Golden wedding anniversary, but he thought it was diamonds. A handy place. He bought it near the Barbican in shopping centre in One New Change. Useful Website https://www.meandem.com/ Please share links to your favourite posts

Orange jacket outfit worn by wine judge Yegas Vegas, dress of the day 416, and 417

Image
Yegas Vegas is an International Wine Judge. You can follow her on Instagram. Yegas Vegas and Angela Lansbury. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I saw this vision of delectable orange at the Valpolicella, Italian wine tasting event at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. The outfit was worn by Yegas Vegas. The Jacket When I got closer I could see that the bright orange jacket had delicate black motifs. The black accents co-ordinated with her black mesh vest and black handbag. Making an ensemble. The black motifs included the letters abc and black animals. I think they were outlines of pairs of pigs. Unfortunately she bought it years ago in  Seville, Spain, not from South Africa where she hails from, so you are unlikely to be able to buy anything identical. However, you can learn from her that orange and black makes a stunning combination. If we had had time to talk, I might have been able to persuade her to take off the jacket so that I could read the label at the neck,...

Orange vintage jacket by Laurent Roma, outfit 415

Image
Orange jacket label Laurent Roma worn by Angela beside green car. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Angela Lansbury in autumn orange with orange jacket, orange shoes and orange and multi-colour umbrella. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The name Laurent is Italian and French for Lawrence. From the Latin.  (You may recall the name Yves Saint Laurent, YSL for short, which stands for Yves Saint Laurent.) The name means from an area south of Rome which had Laurel trees. The name Lawrence is also related to Larry and Lars. I'm astonished and impressed by how much wonderful knowledge I have gained by trying to track down the origin of the name on the label. The Orange Jacket The label says designed and made in Italy. The garment is vintage. I bought it years ago, probably in what was then an Oxfam shop in Hatch End. The fabric appears to be suede. If it was real suede it was a lower price than a new garment because the orange suede has lots of dirty grey marks. I hoped to be able to rub them off but...

More orange - Olsen Cardigan, dress of the day 414

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing Olsen Cardigan. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Bought from St Luke's which raises money for hospices. I saw the orange colour. It is knitted and thick fibre, a little tough, not soft. However, the shaping is wonderful. I love it. It suits me. I feel glamorous. If you have a knitting machine or design clothes, consider this shape for a cardigan or jacket. Bonus - more Oliver Bonas outfits at Euston Station, post 413

Image
After meeting Megan who was wearing a wonderful, colourful Oliver Bonas skirt, I noticed the Oliver Bonas shop in Paddington Station. A few days later I was passing through Euston station and had time to browse in that branch of the clothes shop. The clothes for day evening and outdoor jackets were colourful, distinctive, attention-getting and original. In addition to dresses, tops and jackets  I saw handy hats. Naturally you want to buy a set, in matching colours, of scarf, gloves and hat. Another rack had small items, easy to back, with potential as gifts. A light up necklace. A cat lovers pizza cutter. A corgi lovers pizza cutter. Please share links to your favourite posts.

Orange top from Minuet Petite, outfit 412

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a striking form fitting orange top from label Minuet Petite. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Orange and Black Minuet Petite Top I bought this from the St Lukes Charity shop in Hatch End. I wasn't sure about it and didn't know the label but it was cheap.  I had to buy it without trying it on because their cubicle seems to be permanently blocked this month. However, the colour and size were a success. Petite means  small in French. The masculine is petit. Add an e for the feminine and you get petite. . If you try to search for the name, your search brings up all sorts of other company ranges called petite. The Patra Vest I am wearing a similar orangey pink coloured Patra sleeved v neck vest. The sleeves are short. The vest is showing the sleeves underneath. The sleeves come down to just below my elbows which adds a little warmth at this time of year. Orange accessories Add orange lipstick, and an orange bag or notebook. Lipstick My orange lipstick is a...

Marks & Spencer coat reversed Post 409

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a black Marks & Spencer coat reversed. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The magenta lining was such a pretty colour that I preferred it to the black outside. If a coat has a label at the neck which shows, or one on the side seam, you could either cut it off or cover it with black ribbon sewn on. Some people, such as the royal family, are reputed to always include a funeral outfit in their packing in case it is needed. (I always pack a swimsuit, so as not to miss out, and an evening outfit, in case I get invited to a party or wedding or smart restaurant for dinner.) An alternative is to have a reversible coat or jacket. Useful Websites https://www.marksandspencer.com/ Please share links to your favourite posts.
