Outfit 293 - Three Elephants: Chinese, Indian and Thai

Image
Angela with triple elephants. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Indian skirt, orange elephants on blue background, with heart pattern on the elephants. Wrap around skirt. Chinese china elephant. These can be used as seats, for a small, light person, or pot plant supports. You often see them placed in front of doors, like the Chinese lions which are guardians. t Thai bag. White elephants on dark blue. The bag is tote bag size, but with the bonus of a zip across the top and a small zip pocket inside.   Reversed Orange Tee-shirt I looked at the orange tee-shirt and thought, the colour is just right. But the small pattern in the middle did not go with the skirt. But was the back plain? Yes it was. I reversed the tee-shirt. Perfect colour. No pattern. I could wear it facing forwards at the dinner table at home, and online on a Zoom meeting. If I went out, I could cover the back with a jacket, even a sleeveless jacket.  About the author (About the Author of this blog, Author Angel...

What To Look For Buying Sandals - A second look at my Mustafa Sandals - Senorita Style - Shoe Shopping Tips

Image
Elastic stretch and security, on sandals from Mustafa's Department sotre. Photo by Angela Lansbury Shop In Many Small Shops Or One Large Store? I looked at the inexpensive and mostly plastic sandals in shops in Little India as we walked from the Little India MRT station. I could have stopped at a dozen shops. However, that would have taken up most of our time and energy. However, my focused husband was intent on sticking to our plan, which was to shop in Mustafa's department store for a large number of different items, starting with our food, ending with my shoes. Department Store Success So we continued to Mustafa's, which proved to be a great success.  I was looking for sandals, which are adjustable across the toes as well as around  the ankle. Why? To take on and off quickly, hurried in the morning, changing shoes and tired in the evening, changing for the swimming pool, and importantly, at security checks at airports.  Disappointing Display - Don't Be Disappointed I...

Mustard dress of the day 292

Image
Angela Lansbury in mustard yellow colour dress. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I found this dress online when I was in London. I was looking for something like my Ann Balon dress which I wore at our son's wedding. Ann Balon dresses, even on sale in the shops and online, are expensive, and heavy.  I looked for dress and matching scarf, lace dress, two piece dress.   I found this dress listed under boho which is short for bohemian. It had several features which I liked. The matching top and under-dress. The lace inserts, known as godets.  The long sleeves which hitch up.  I was disapointed in the colour because I was wearing vibrant reds and royal blues and green. However, the mustard goes perfectly with blonde hair. And with gold-rimmed glasses. I thought the dress was dull and the sleeves were too heavy for Singapore. However, in Singapore you can be quite cold indoors in an air-coonditioned restaurant. Outdoors, you might want your arms covered to protect yourself fro...

Black and orange Swimsuit skirt - tied down! Dress of the day 291.

Image
Black and orange swimsuit, worn by Angela. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Swimsuits With Skirts I wanted a swimsuit with a knee-length skirt and long sleeves. I needed protection from the sun in Singapore. I swim regularly.  I found what I wanted on websites using the words Muslim and modest swimsuit and two and three piece. This swimsuit came with leg coverings and a head piece. The whole outfit was overwhelming. It made me look like a robot and felt heavy.  However, months later, I eventually realized that I could wear the top half with black bikini bottoms from another swimsuit. I also cut in half a one piece suit. I had cut it in half because it had a back which was too low. The cut off half lower half, worn alone, fitted well enough around the waist.  Skirt Tie Down Ribbons The top piece comes with two black tubular ribbons of the same fabric which are attached inside at waist level. The ribbons are designed to stop the skirt flying up in the water. I presume they at...

Ladies sandals from Little India and Mustafa's accessory of the day 290

Image
My cheapest sandals from Mustafa's. Sandals in silver gray, reduced price in Mustafa's 24 hour department store in Singapore. Brand Perleei. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  I bought two pairs of sandals in Mustaphas's. Both silvery gray. One had closure to tighten at the back strap, although not across the toes. The brand is Perleei La Sandal. The size 37. Price reduced. From over ten dollars to 5.90 dollars. An incredibly low price.  I was looking for sandals which are adjustable across the toes as well as around  the ankle. Why? To take on and off quickly at security checks at airports.  As I tried them on, I was thinking: But at this price, I could afford to use them as a pair and just wear them at home. Or to take a chance. Wear them until I found something better. Meanwhile, how did they feel?  Solid underfoot. Not flexible. Looked good.  The sandals had to be worth it, just to walk around the house, or wear once. They look better off than on. They have a d...

Dress of the Day 289 Turn A Tissue Box Cover into a shoulder bag - using ribbons, a zip, and checking the prices of Thai silk bags and purses

Image
Burgundy Wine colour DIY bag from a tissue box cover. Photo by Angela Lansbury.   I had a tissue box cover in a pretty wine colour fabric which just matched my evening outfits. I looked at the tissue box cover and thought, that would make a nice shoulder bag. I need a small bag when I leave the table in a restaurant to visit the ladies toilet and comb my hair and re-apply my lipstick. Often I carry my mobile phone as a camera to photograph a flower display or menu on the way.   The first thing the open bag needed was a ribbon as a shoulder strap. I have bought lots of spools of ribbons from Daiso, and spotlight. The ribbon which was the right colour, as well as wide and firm, was a synthetic looking ribbon which I had not expected to be useful. But it was just right. It took only a few minutes to sew it to both sides.  Next I needed a zip closure. Again, a small zip from Daiso. I had bought a set of three.  The pink looked the right colour, but it screamed for a...

Cowboy shirt in blue, dress 288. With a white cowgirl/cowboy hat. Where to get your line dancing outfit.

Image
Colours Blue. Soothing blue. Makes a change from red. Matches my blue eyes. Red, white and blue of the American flag.  Buttons What are the main features of cowboy or cowgirl shirts? The snap buttons. Never lose a button. Never have to sew on a button. No loose buttons.  No need to reinforce loose buttons. Quick to put on. Quick to take off - and check the label for you. At last the diet is working, weight  49.5 kg, size 12 down from 16-18, and I can wear vintage clothes which have sat in the wardrobe for a decade.  Cuff Snap Buttons Not two snap buttons, but three on the cuff, four if you include the one on the slit from the cuff up the inside sleeve. Pocket closure Two pockets, both secured with snap button closure. Neat. Not gapping and sagging. Nothing can fall out and break. Nothing can fall out and get lost. Nothing can get taken unnoticed by light fingers. Pockets Not one but two pockets. Symmetrical. No lop-sided look. No, we could not afford a second pocket ...

Pretty in Pink, Short Shein dress, with Props. Dress of the day 287.

Image
Dress 287, Pretty in Pink, from Shein. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. This tunic dress was reduced from thirteen dollars to six, so I added it to my previous order of the red cape dress. The fabric is synthetic. Useful Website shein https://www.shein.co.uk/SHEIN-Sheer-Lace-Sleeve-Scallop-Trim-Dress-p-2872008-cat-1727.html The colour is described as red violet. I would call it magenta. Their website helpfully showed the model wearing the dress both front view and back view. SHEIN Sheer Lace Sleeve Scallop Trim Dress S$6.00  S$13.00 Size:  XS  (6) After I had ordered the two dresses in this post and the previous post, I saw this Shein ad in Scotts Road, Singapore. Shein advertisement in Scotts Road, Singapore. Photo by Angela Lansbury. The online critics of Shein point out that the fabrics used might be 100% synthetic and perhaps not the quality you might have hoped for. The fabric looks like it has been cut, rather than seamed.  Useful Websites https://www.sh...

Ready for Red. Take a Shine to the Shein dress with cape sleeves. Dress 286. How to shorten a long dress.

Image
Angela in red dress with cape sleeves. Rhinestone shoes. Dress when first tried on, trailing on floor. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I ordered this dress from Shein because of the cape sleeve. I love my cape blazers which look very elegant.  I had seen my friend Vicky in her mother-of-the-bride cape dress in blue, so elegant. That dress looked perfect for a special occasion. Could you wear it again at other times. Or dye it, to make it look different.  The blue dress was too expensive for my everyday budget. Then I saw several cape sleeve dresses on Shein. I signed up to their website and got frequent updates on dresses which were newly added to the website and other offered in reduced price sales. Then up popped this red dress. The price was reduced from about forty dollars to about twenty. The postage free or cheap. I had previously bought cape blazers from China, which were way too small. I had problems with Chinese made jackets which I bought from from Mustaphas departmen...

Hats Off to Zoom! How to dress to speak online. Sit or Stand. Shoes? Necklines - Naughty or Nice? With or Without a hat?

Image
Sometimes you need to be sitting down. As in this restaurant photo showing me dining in at B & K salt beefr bar and deli in London. I am eating lokshen (noodle) pudding. When You Must Sit Many speakers need to stay seated.  Practical and Social Reasons They may be eating dinner. Holding a baby. Cuddling a kitten. Reading their notes. Reaching for props on a desk. Medical reasons  Have ankle, knee or back problems. Solutions include: Tell everybody in the audience your problem. Ask the chairperson to explain you are sitting down (with, or without, giving a reason). That way you won't waste time during your speech in the explanation. Angela Lansbury. Selfie. Hair plaited to keep it out of the way. I saw a speech in London given by an older man who had difficulty standing for a long period. He told us he had considered sitting down but he thought that he would not be seen by audience members at the back. So he bought and brought to the meeting a bar stool. It was the sort wit...
