Swimsuits With Skirts
I wanted a swimsuit with a knee-length skirt and long sleeves. I needed protection from the sun in Singapore. I swim regularly. I found what I wanted on websites using the words Muslim and modest swimsuit and two and three piece. This swimsuit came with leg coverings and a head piece.
The whole outfit was overwhelming. It made me look like a robot and felt heavy.
However, months later, I eventually realized that I could wear the top half with black bikini bottoms from another swimsuit. I also cut in half a one piece suit. I had cut it in half because it had a back which was too low. The cut off half lower half, worn alone, fitted well enough around the waist.
Skirt Tie Down Ribbons
The top piece comes with two black tubular ribbons of the same fabric which are attached inside at waist level. The ribbons are designed to stop the skirt flying up in the water. I presume they attach to loops on the trousers which are now in another country.
(Update - when I ordered another pink stripe swimsuit which you can see in a later post, I found that the trousers had two long ribbons. So the top fastens to the leggings.)
What could I do with the ribbons on the top, without wearing the leggings containing matching ribbon ties? I used the top's two ties to tie around the sides of the bikini bottom. That gave me added security that the bikini bottom, which did not have a piece of elastic around the waist, would stay in place.
I am thrilled by the secret ribbons to tie down the skirt. A bonus.
I then wondered if I could keep the skirt in place by sewing together the hem in the centre at the front and the back, like shorts. I tried with just a couple of black stitches. That felt uncomfortable when walking. The stitches soon pulled out in the water. Never mind. Back to relying on the ribbons.
Orange Colour
Meanwhile, as the swimsuit changes with various additions and discoveries, it if fulfilling its function. When It first arrived I was horrified by the bright orange. I thought it was cheap and nasty.
Also the black was funeral. However, black goes with other swim shorts and hats.
Either I have changed or fashions have changed. Or maybe bright orange looks right in the tropics, rather than gloomy, gray London. Now I love the jolly orange.Black and orange - perfect.
Bust Support
The top half does not support my bust. A Singaporean Chinese friend in the swimming pool water told me, wear an ordinary bra underneath.
Instead, I, discovered an old black bikini top. It had been unworn for years. It used to be too small. But after my year-long diet, I resurrected it and found a new use for it as an undergarment.
Waterproof sandals
My waterproof sandals are Crocs. I love them.

Stretch swimming cap. I ordered these in three or four colours. They are not waterproof. But I do not swim underwater. They are to keep my long hair up and out of the water.
