Pictures from fhaHoReCa Food, Restaurant and Hospitality exhibition at Expo in Singapore

Image
My best picture, taken by a passer-by on my mobile phone, arms outstretched.  I am co-ordinated in red, white and black. A reject - this one was reversed and out of focus. I wanted to show the collar. I shall have to do so later. Within the MRT (railway) you have to wear masks.  The first effort, with arms beside my body was not as good as the later version.

Crocs - Why I love Them! Post 533

Image
I love Crocs. They look ugly and clumpy, agreed, but they are so practical.  Firstly, they do not cramp your toes and deform your feet like fashion shoes. Secondly, they fit. The rotating strap is slightly tighter in one direction than the other. They are quick to put on. If you have the rotating strap facing forwards, they are slip ons. Looser.  Too loose? Pull the strap back and they are secure around your heel. TIGHTER! You can wear them in the rain. They protect your toes from hitting against objects. They cover your whole front foot from the sun to prevent cancer of the upper foot. If you get them wet, they are quick to dry.  If you get them muddy, you can wash them off. If you can't afford them, you can get cheap imitations. What is wrong with the cheap imitations? What is different about them? They might have holes which have ragged edges  of still have a film of foam half way across. They are different colours.  Crocs themselves come in plain or du...

How To Dress For A Contest With Pin-On Microphones - and Where and How To Sit For Photos, Dress of the Day 532

Image
Angela Lansbury, at a contest. Photo from Saddiq.  Where To Sit? You can see me in the front row, wearing red. It is always good to sit in the front row. As a contestant I was placed in the front row. If you are speaking on stage it is convenient to be at the end of the row and near the front and near the central aisle so you can get out in a hurry. Red makes me visible. The shoes, the top and the lipstick are all matching. Pin-on Microphones The organizers arranged for us to all practise pinning on the microphones at the right height and checking that they worked.   On previous occasions, at contests, there had been delays to the event and stress to the contestants and confusion about the timing of the speeches, and whether to re-start. Why? Because the battery had died or the contestant forgot to turn on the microphone. So we were briefed to ask, 'Can you hear me?', before starting to speak.  Masks We had all been sitting, half of us with masks. I removed min...

The Red Top Brand Tansshop From Refash Dress of the day 531

Image
Photo of Angela Lansbury in a Red top, dress of the day,  I was at a Toastmasters International speech contest. This is at the end of the contest. I am being presented with three speech contest trophies and a certificate. The certificate is the certificate of participation for being in the speech evaluation contest. The trophy is for being second runner up, which sounds better than third place. If the two ahead of me are unable to attend, I shall go forward to the Distric 80 (Singapore) contest. The other two trophies are for the previous level contests are area level for are S5 in which I competed online. I was second in the Table Topics (impromptu speech) contest. I was first in the speech Evaluation contest which enabled me to compete in the contest at this venue.    The Red Top What did I like about this red top? The wide sleeves are loose and comfortable. The plain red can go with lots of skirts and patterned skirts, as well as red shoes. The lace effect fabri...

Re-fash - buy bargain second-hand clothes. Post 530

Image
A re-fash shop selling cheap second hand clothes is in Changi Point, by Expo MRT, one MRT underground railway stop away from Changi Airport. Re-fash has an outlet at Changi Point, one MRT railway stop from the airport.    Singapore Singapore has re-fash. They sell second hand clothes, and they prefer and pay more for well known brands. You can buy from them and sell to them. They have numerous outlets all over Singapore. I had previously visited another branch. I was taken there by a friend. This time I recognized the name, after I saw the sign promoting attractive prices. Starting at $4.90. Not $4.99. $4.90. Ten cents less than I had paid for a top, a bargain $5, bought from a wheeled counter in the atrium of Bukit Panchang indoor shopping mall. Not everything is the cheapest price. You have to check the tickets. Whilst I was looking at clothes, in walked an elegant woman, who looked slim despite being a few inches smaller than me. I reckoned she was only about 4 foot t...

Three dresses, pink, white and green - when to wear which colour? Dress of the Day, Post 529

Image
Jazzy in pink frilled dress with white cape. Photo by Faith.  This is 'Jazzy' wearing a pink dress. Her favourite colour is pink. You can see that her mobile phone has a pink cover. Her cuddly soft toy is pink. Her white shoes have pink pom poms. Her glasses are pinky-red. She is wearing pink lipstick. She has a pink scrunchie wristband. The white frilled tie-on jacket is frilled. The jacket frill echoes the wide double frill hem of her dress.  She is not wearing a mask. A pink or white mask would go well. Pink Is Perfect For Which Occasions? Pink is pretty for playtime, after work.  Pink is for princesses. Her background is a white door. The white door matched the white jacket. The pink of the dress is echoed by the floor and the wall.  She liked the dress so much that she bought another, and a third. Where is this picture taken? Look carefully and you can see her arm reflected in a mirror. Is the mirror on the wall on her left - or in front of her, with the double ...

The Perfect Self-Portrait, Flowers in Colour, converted to black and white, dress 528

Image
Angela Lansbury with flowers in a vase. Selfie. Copyright.  I took a photo of myself with myself wearing an orange scarf to add colour to a black jacket, plus some colourful flowers in a Ladies rest room. (The Tanglin Club in Singapore. You can find similar flower displays in flower shops, and in the lobbies and rest rooms of large hotels.) Other photo opportunities are flowers delivered for a birthday or anniversary, to you or anybody else.  I needed several shots to get a really good one. I also did a lot of editing, mainly cropping. I cropped out my forearms which appeared large as I reached forward to press my fingertip on the take a photo button. Angela Lansbury with flowers. Selfie Photo edited by Angela Lansbury. Copyright Angela Lansbury. Black & White I needed a black and white photo for an author portrait for the inside of printed book. In an ebook the colours don't matter. But in a printed book, whilst colour on the cover is usually included, colours inside the ...

If the zipper of the clothes is broken, don't spend money to replace it....

This YouTube video is in Chinese, but you can see what she is doing and there are subtitles. Please share links to your favourite posts. Zip pulls from Amazon. The American word is zipper. The British word is zip. You can buy replacement zip tabs. Amazon calls them zipper pulls. You can sew across the end of a zip to stop it springing open. This way, I used to sew 100 panties a day for money! I'm not a tailor, post 526

Image
I have found YouTube videos on sewing bras, panties, and circle skirts. My favourite tip is using see through plasti for the pattern, copying your own old underwear. You can copy briefs and make them larger, wider, or higher,  or both. Repairs To Underwear and slips Use this as inspiration. Also repair items which have lost effective elastic. Before watching this video, I had already cut down underwear which went at the gusset, turning granny knickers into briefs.  I have lots of half slips and knickers with elastic which has gone, or is on the point of collapsing on me, so that I wear the garment at home and don't risk a descent of underwear when out in the street. Saving Elastic I have cut out elastic from garments with holes saved and preserved bits of eleastic to use in other projects. I have a box labelled elastic.  What use is a piece of short elastic? You could use one piece on the front of a garment and the other on the back. A short piece has many uses, such as m...

Make a T-Shirt BIGGER: 5 WAYS - 525

Image
I would simply have slit the t-shirt down the back and linked it with ribbons. Method one. Method 2 is slit it down the side seams and insert a vertical wide ribbon each side. Or link with a pice of horizontal ribbon and wear a camisole to fill the gap visually. Method 3 would be to slit it down the front and wear it like an open front jacket. Agains, you can fill the gap with either vertical or horizontal ribbon. Of a metal joining clip. This video shows you a totally different and more inventive system with a second t shirt and curves. You start with a small tee-shirt you really like.  Take another tee-shirt, then cut a curve for each side and extend to under the arm. Insert on both sides of the smaller tee-shirt. Use spare material from the larger tee chirt to make a matching edging for a v-neck which you cut out. Works best when the larger item has no pattern. .

Sukkot Clothes: fruit patterns, lemons, colours, blue + Ann Balon Embroidered Dyed Dress & Jacket 102 from 2020 with updates in 2022.Post 524.

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a pink Ann Balon dress in a blue Sukkah, holding a piece of fruit. Sharot family photo. This was what I wore for supper in a sukkah a couple of years ago, in 2020. In the photo you can see I was wearing a dusty pink dress, brand Ann Balon. The dress and matching jacket had lace appliqu é .  The Colours of The Clothes I thought Ann Balon's dusty pink was dull on my complexion, corpse colour so I tried dyeing it with Dylon powder dye from a box. I decided to just do the edges to see if I liked the color. I liked the effect of the contrast color edges. No need to do any more. Besides, the dye made such a mess in the bath, overflowing the plastic bowl, dripping as the clothes hung over the bath on hangers, that I decided not to do any more dyeing. Blue The colour of the awning and sides of this sukkah are blue. Blue is the colour of the magen David (star of David) on the Israeli flag. When I saw it, I thought, oops, I should have worn blue. Of course to w...

Save your socks, worn or odd socks, to make this: No pattern, No sewing machine Sock Doll 🧦 You will love this cute girl w...

Image
Have you ever wondered what to do with old socks? Especially odd socks. And children's socks which they have grown out of? The nose was made out of a scrap of fabric. You could do the same with the eyes, make them out of fabric.  The nose could also be made the same way as the eyes in the video. With a bead. Or cover a button or bead with fabric. You only need a couple of socks.  And beads for the eyes. And a scrap of fabric for the little dress. Ideally edged with lace or something pretty.  And some wood for the hair. And two socks. One the colour of her pale skin. Then use rouge for the cheeks. Draw on the mouth. I would make the mouth smile. Lots of time and patience. Bead Boxes I have a bead box. I have several. I also have button boxes. Button Boxes In the UK I have a small button box which I bought on holiday. It is a box covered in buttons which have been glued onto the box and lid. The box is the size of a muffin. The glued on buttons is a cute idea. A waste of lo...

Barbie Doll Exhibition in Singapore with Elvis and famous boys and girls, Post/dress 522, and Flushable Fashion book

Image
Angela Lansbury with Jian Yang, collector of Barbie dolls and doll clothes designer and author of the book Flushable Fashion. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury.  Here I am with a man who has been described as one of Singapore's most eligible bachelors.  What of the dolls? They are fun. They are fantastic. Famous faces. Barbie dolls from the exhibition in Ion, wearing the outfits of Singapore Airlines. Three thoughts come to mind when you view this Barbie doll collection exhibition. (Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!) More than 600 dolls in clothes ranging from beachwear to wedding dresses. You can marvel at the lovely ladies, film stars, royals, William and Kate, inspiring people such as an astronaut, and the boy dolls, Elvis, business or sporty. Three Thoughts On Barbie Dolls Inspiration 1 Barbie dolls promote slim women (who still have pronounced waists and curves). 2 Barbie dolls have colourful clothes and matching accessories and props. 3 The latest trend is disposable or...

Daiso for cheap detachable collars and light caps, dress 521

Image
Daiso. Photo by Angela Lansbury. The Daiso Japanese shop has many branches, including the central one at Ion and the one by exit F, Downtown line, right next to the MRT for Expo, handy for you or your friends attending exhibitions as visitors or exhibitors. It is also one stop from Changi airport if you are on the way there to leave Singapore and need last minute gifts. Opposite the Daiso store by Expo MRT is Threppy, which has slightly higher prices. Annoyingly and confusingly they don't give the prices. Instead, they colour code the items and you have to check the colour code chart b the cashier on the way in. I photograph it to have a reference to quickly see whether I want to buy something. Angela Lansbury wearing a black detachable, tie-on collar, bought from Daiso, in Singapore. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Black Circular Collar I bought a black large circular collar to put on any garment. It serves two purposes. It makes a round neck tee shirt or top look slightly smarter. It a...
