Dress 276: Black and white vintage Principles Blouse with silk collar and white Nespresso Cup.

Image
Vintage Black and White Principles Blouse The smooth woven label at the neck says Principles and it does not have that nasty sharp edge created by heat sealing. This all in one top is comfortable, pretty and practical. The silky, stretchy black body is size 16, Euro 44 and made in China. The fabric is 86% viscose and 14% polyamide. The shiny white yoke and sleeves are, surprise, surprise, 100% silk. The neck and cuffs have pleated edges. I looked up Principles in Wikipedia and learned that the company started out as Burtons, which became Arcadia. The parent company owned down to earth Dorothy Perkins, smarter yuppy Principles, British Home stores and many more - such as the Debenhams store. Hard times struck. Struck the balance sheet, the shop floor staff - and the customers. The Arcadia brands were sold off by administrators, mainly bought out by Boohoo and Asos, this year, in 2021. The blouse has two pearl buttons at the neck and each cuff has one flat pearl button. The buttons...

Dress 63 Red and blue bought at Ankor Wat and temples in Cambodia, with red and blue umbrellas

Red and blue dress, bought from persistent sellers who ran beside me at Ankor Wat and the other wats, meaning temples, for three days, gradually reducing prices. The pattern was on dresses, skirts and fisherman's wrap trousers. According to the labels the clothes are imported from China and labelled for Chinese tourists. For Fun Photos - What are British values, traditions and symbols? The flag? The pubs? The stately homes? Red, white and blue to create something new.

Image
Starting with values: Simple and easy to remember. the five core values include 1 Democracy 2 Respecting people of all religions and none Traditions include the pubs, stately homes and the Union Jack flag. How do you show these in a photo? By waving a Union Jack flag or standing beside one.  By wearing the Union Jack on important days. Background Or Foreground Landmarks  By featuring landmarks as backdrops. By featuring pubs. Tower Bridge.  Waddeson Manor, England, UK. Angela in dress of the day, reversible orange. British foods.  British brand crockery.  Holding a Toby jug. You assume things are done the British way until you go abroad. Then you find the Chinese really do eat rice with chopsticks. Therefore visually you can show joint values, or contrasts, the British flag alongside an American or Chinese flag. Contrast weather in another country, in a photo.  Self-Captioning Photos I used to look back at photos and try to identify them. I remember l...

Dress of the Day - Anthony Sicari in black, fuchsia and green 275

Image
Angela is wearing an Anthony Sicari two piece skirt suit in black, fuchsia and green. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Anthony Sicari Suit Design Black knitted fabric with contrasting shiny satin-like panels on the cut of one sleeve and shoulder of the other. The contrast fabric is on the lower arm on one side, but attached to a black knitted cuff on the other side. The lower part of the sleeve attaches to the upper part diagonally on both arms. Distracts attention from the shape and large size of the wearer. The skirt has scalloped overlapping frills of the patterned fabric. The skirt is attached to a sleeveless tunic top, under the thicker knitted sleeved top. Cravat? I find that the white thermal vest distracts and is the wrong fabric, pattern and colour and looks like underwear which should be hidden. The solution is to cover it with a cravat or scarf. Usually Anthony Sicari outfits come with a matching scarf. Sometimes if you have a long skirt, a long hem, or a skirt which is so long that ...

New Non-Reflective Spectacles From Hatch End Eyecare! Trifocal, Reactolite

Image
Angela's New Spectacles bought From Hatch End Eyecare My new frames show more of my eyes. The lenses don't reflect light in photos and online on Zoom. Hatch End Eyecare has the most amazing and amusing shop. My old glasses, slightly lopsided, had come apart several times. The right hand side had dropped the screw several times and finally, lost the grip of the thread and were superglued together by my helpful husband. We had looked at three shops in Singapore which offered only plain spectacle frames which looked like those offered on the UK's National Health Service to schoolchildren. I knew that a trip back to London might offer alternative frames. The old glasses, before they broke. Photo by Sharot family. Old and new spectacles turn dark in the sun. I don't want to carry two pairs. The new spectacles turning dark in the sunlight. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The broken frames had come from the other Hatch End opticians across the road. Pink Asymmetrical Ann Balon Dress - Ideal For Plus Size Women 274

Image
Angela is wearing a pink Ann Balon outfit consisting of an asymmetrical top and skirt. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Ann Balon Outfits What do I like about Ann Balon outfits? They are elegant, lacy, and designed for plus size women.  They flatter your figure. They have a lines and swirly skirts and wide sleeves and stretch fabrics.  You can go to their shop by appointment for a new outfit, for example, for a wedding.  I bought a new outfit in the sale at a  shop in London for the wedding of our son. I tried on several outfits I wanted red but red was not available, and might have been rather too attention getting for mother of the groom, distracting from the bride. Blue was just right.  You can see it as dress 81 in an earlier post. Here is another photo of me in the mother of the groom blue outfit. This outfit is vintage. The waist elastic has stretched. I pulled out a loop and tied knots in it. The last pink rose of summer matches perfectly. The design is asy...

Clogs like Crocs with holes - Swimming Pool shoes - the colours, sizes and when and where you can wear them

Image
On ebay and Amazon. The brand leader are Crocs. I have a second hand pair of Crocs in yellow. The real deal - Crocs. You can wear the strap at the front or at the back. It rotates on a circular fixing. The Yellow Sandals In this picture I have matched up the yellow shoes with a yellow swimming ring. I found them abandoned. I washed them off. Because they were dirty. And somebody else had worn them. This was before Covid-19. For several months I did not wear them. They looked big and clonky. Then my other shoes were wet. So I tried them on. The Crocs soon became a regular alternative shoe, until they became my everyday shoes. I wear my yellow shoes all day indoors around the home. The shoes, or rather, sandals, look rather clompy with smart clothes. However, they are comfortable and quick to put on and off for photos or when jumping into the shower to cool down in Singapore. And when you come out of the shower with wet feet. The latest Crocs were on sale at a store in Orchard Road...

Angela, wearing an orange reversible maxi dress. No label. The hat is just a brim. Bought at a ski resort in the USA. Scarf on Jacket The jacket has a matching scarf in checkerboard pattern with some circles like chess pieces. The colours are black and white, rust.. You cannot lose it or have it hanging lopsided because it is attached to the jacket below the inside label at the neck. It has two false packet flaps for decoration only. 263 Blue instant starburst outfit.

Image
Do you believe in recycling? Somebody threw this blue fabric away. It was a mat with a torn cover. Of course I washed it in the shower. I took the torn cover off the mattress or exercise mat and cut the material. I cut off the torn parts and trailing threads. I tried the fabric in four directions to see which way the pattern went.  Ready to go. I had enough material for two garments, a long dress and a jacket or top. One part had a zip.  I took the simpler part without the zip. I cut a slit for the neck. I added a ribbon belt. From my sets of ribbons I selected a matching colour.  Instant new outfit.  What next? Add a blue hat and umbrella. The black lace collar is a dickey. A pretend shirt, just a collar and a bib with elastic under both arms supposed to keep the collar straight. Not really straight. But the picture will have to do.  You can find lots of the simple clip on collars or longer dickeys on Ebay. They mostly come from China. The black lace edge slip ...

262 The Red hat - and the orange, and pink and the purple

Image
Orange hat. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. I match the hat to my lipstick and outfit. The background is my green screen in the home office. The red hat. This is the first one I bought. Again, the contrast is a green screen backdrop. Here is is in orange. I was wearing it and plonked the big brim hat on top just to carry the bigger hat, but Liked the result. One hat, several impressions. I have this hat in red, orange, navy, and purple. First I bought the red. Then the orange. Then the yellow. Then the navy and purple. All elegant. Great purchases. The last one I bought was in pink and was not such a success. It had a  lurid shiny satin ribbon instead of vibrant but matt chiffon and was horrid. The fabric did not curve like rose petals. but sat in creases. The pink hat and the better purple one. Details of suppliers in previous posts.
