A caftan is loose and comfortable. 

Loose Clothes

Loose clothes are comfortable for lounging around at home. I bought my first oriental caftan in Singapore at a time when I was over there and overweight and all the clothes sold locally were for Chinese teenagers who were a size 8 when I was size 16. 

The skirts were indecently short. The buttons and zips would not do up. The seams split if I tried to pull the garments on. Sometimes, in a changing room, I was trapped inside a garment half way, trying to take it off again.

Convenient and Quick

Convenient. Quick to put on. No decisions about which top matches which skirt and trousers. All you need to match is the shoes. Add a belt if the caftan is too long and tripping you up, or hiding your pretty shoes. 

A caftan is the ideal garment if you hear a knock at the door - you are quickly ready to answer. A caftan is also quick when you are called for breakfast and you are dressed for breakfast, dressed for the day. You are ready to appear online in a video call. 

I washed it out and it dried creas-free by the morning. However, by the evening when I took this photo it had creased up again.

    Sweater embroidered with mock pearls matches my hat pinned with mock pearl brooches.  I had never worn this pale grey sweater  I thought pale grey was a boring colour and always opted for something brighter such as royal blue or bight red. Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
