Fly-away Hair? How to cure yours and anybody else's with conditioner or moisturizer

Sometimes I take off my hat for a photo and I have fly away hair. It looks untidy. Worse, messy. It might look tousled and sexy. But more often it does not look professional. It sometimes ruins an otherwise good photo.

Other people also have this problem. For years I went to the World Travel Market and saw an acquaintance who turned up every year with attractive orange hair, but such a mop that she looked untidy. I always wondered what was the cause and cure.

After several years, I discovered the transformation I could make on my own hair - which got drier and drier, pershaps from tint  - with conditioner. I then had the urge to improve her hair. When I could not persuade her to take action, I went to the bathroom with her, put some on my hands to smoothe onto my own hair, and offered to add some to her hair to show her the difference. Unfortunately, she liked to look like a haystack. However, most people are glad of suggestions for improvement and are glad to try anything, once.

I discovered that the cure is simply conditioner. But what if you forgot to use it when you washed your hair? Or you washed your hair in the shower without conditioner. Or you are in a hotel and have no conditioner. 

If you have conditioner, you don't need to apply it only when you have just washed your hair. You can put a dab on your hand of a bowl and add water. 

Hand Lotion

If you don't have conditioner, hand lotion makes a last resort substitute. You will find hand lotion in public toilets,  more often than hair conditioner.

If you pop into a large hotel or restaurant for a meal or snack or to check out their clothes shop and souvenirs, you might go into the rest room and find moisturizers.

Some shampoos claim to combine shampoo and moisturizer for dry hair. For example, Dove. You can buy Dove from Asda, which is a budget price supermarket in the UK.

Most boxed hair dyes or tints include a small bottle or sachet of conditioner. The small dispensers are a handy size to carry on holiday or when out for the day or evening.

Last resort? Plait your hair. (Americans say braids for plaits.) Wet the ends with plain water. 

You can also use conditoner to tame wilk eyebrows.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours.
