Two Ways to Wear a Scarf Wrap with buttons, where to buy one, and how to make one: 186, 189

I love semi see-though scarves held in place with buttons. So elegant. So different. I found them in four places.

1 Firstly, at the Botanic Gardens. Expensive. Numerous colourways. Flat, elegant, two hole buttons.

2 Then online from China, inexpensive, with free postage. Numerous colourways, but muted colours. Cute spherical imitation silver buttons.

First featured as Dress of the Day 186.

You can see the buttons down the front. It can also be worn with the buttons across the shoulders. Abstract pattern.

The colour was rather dull at night, especially with black underneath. At noon, in sunlight, with white or red underneath, the effect is much brighter.

3 Then I found more scarves from a motorway stop in the UK. Fine fabric, too delicate to resist pulls. The brand name Thomas Calvi. (First featured as Dress of the Day 189.) Gorgeous painting of sail scene. You need to hold your arms up to show the full scenery.

DIY

Take two large oblong scarves. For a neat effect, same colour. You can sometimes by two scarves at leass cost than one.

put them alongside, along the long edges. find out how much room you need for it to go over your head, with the top button between your neck and chest. To have it hanging evenly at the front and back, the buttons should be spaced evenly from both ends.

Sew on the buttons.

Find a matching piece of ribbon, which you can sew edge to edge lengthways, or roll into a spiral tube.. Cut long enough to go around the button.

Sew up the sides and ends of the ribbon. Sew on at the right level to match the button.

Alternatively, use tubular elastic. If the elastic core is hard to sew, consider twisting your ribbon tie to be into a knot.  Sew down the knot.

Useful Websites

Cheap chiffon scarves from China with free shipping. Flimsy but fun. Ingenius design. You should buy one so that you can copy the style with your other superfluous scarves. If your scarf does not match any tops, turn it into a top.
