Yellow tee-shirt labels and other garment labels - what do they mean? What can you learn?

 


Sometimes the label is merely the name of the company, other times the label carries two pieces of information, the company name and the 'label' or brand. For example, in effect, 'Holding Company A', plus either 'Ourcheaprange', or 'Ourexpensiverange'.  
A company can have different brandnames indicating: 'Womensclothes', or 'Kiddieclothes'. Holding Company A might buy up Company B. At this point the labels all carry the company name, Company A, followed by one or more styles of clothes from company A, or one of the styles from company B. 

I find it fun to look up the names and learn the convoluted history of the company and a particular brand.

What do tee -shirt labels tell you?

Sometimes you draw a blank, nothing at all. Has the company gone out of business or changed its name? Othere times, you get too many results.

USA

What is the difference between America and the United States Of America? Why bother spelling it out? strictly speaking, the term America, or the Americas, applies to South America as well as North America and Central America, a larger geographical area. 

The USA is what it says, a political entity, in north America, uniting several states which have their own separate local laws and taxes and police services, in addition to the ones for the whole of the United States. Plus some offshore islands with complete or hybrid status. 

The states have been united since the civil war and before. The Civil war was when the South wanted to separate, and the North wanted to keep the south within the fold and impose laws including but not limited to the abolition of slavery.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
