Dress

The dress was bought second hand from St Luke's shop in Hatch End. It cost five pounds.

The colours are orange in three shades, mainly the bright, but darkest, Mandarin colour background. Two paler oranges on the flowers. Also, some white and a little black, for some of the pattern of flowers and leaves or buds on talks.

The style is a tunic. Sleeveless. 

Buttons and Unusual Button Fastenings

The buttons are the unusual part. One button is visible at the top. Eight others, pearly orange, the size of shirt buttons, are hidden by the placket, upwards facing. However, here's the interesting part, two extra buttons are downward facing. They do up in buttonholes cut into the buttonhole section. The are at bust height and below. I presume they are to stop the garment gapping there. It is quite hard to do them up, downwards facing. I have never seen that before.

The label says made in China. UK size 16, US 12, EU 44. 

The hem is split at both sides.

It looks rather bulky on me. This must be because underneath I am wearing a white blouse, a red eyelet skirt, and two black half slips.

The washing instructions are in multiple languages.  The English says, save energy, wash at 30 degrees C. The other three symbols which have crosses must be for not dry cleaning, not ironing and not tumble drying.

The fabric is 100% viscose. It feels lightweight. Slightly rough. That doesn't bother me.

The company started out in 1976 as a business for women who were five foot eight and taller.  They spread to the USA and Canada and German, and went online. After assorted takeovers of others and finally by another company they are still in business. The styles are mainly, as they say, classical.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
