Orange. From Sweaty Betty. The name of the brand did not originally appeal to me. I was brought up on the phrase, horses sweat, men perspire and ladies feel the heat. However, the company is very successful. I must concede that the name is memorable. The name is alliterative. It rhymes. It also evokes images of what the clothes are for, vigorous exercise in a gym or outdoors. You know what you are getting. You know where to get suitable clothes. 

The size is UK medium.

The Cuff Slit - Why?

A vertical slit is in each sleeve's cuff.  What for? Your watch? To pull over your hand? To allow perspiration to escape?

Cuff Slits - Thumb Holes

I wondered what the cuff slits were for. Were they for your watch?

I asked on Facebook. My friend, Maria, who teaches dance, said, 'they are thumb holes'.

I asked, what for? To cover your hands? What do you do with your thumbs? Send me a picture. Not for thumb sucking! 

Maria replied:

To keep your hands warm when running or doing yoga in the Northern Hemisphere!

Then I googled thumb holes. They were invented by biker Chuck Mellon who fell off his bike and tore a hole in his shirt. His thumb went through it. He found the hole handy. It kept his sleeve in place. 

He and his brother went into business selling this design. The idea is popular with bikers, parents, fishing folk and footballers. Parents like them because the cuff acts to keep hands warm, saving the cost of gloves and meaning you can't lose them like gloves.

A tiny slit vertically in the hem on both sides.

Wash at 40 degrees. 51 % cotton. 49 % modal (made from spun cellulose fibre).

It was loose, a bit baggy. So I added a belt.  Casual. Loose.

A distress purchase in Cyprus (the Greek side). Brand Gogo.The shop added three holes for me with a hole punch. Metal buckle in simple rounded corner oblong.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive.
