Orange Long Dress With Matching Long Coat And Wide Scarf, elegant dress of the day 558
From ebay, so second hand. No label. Maybe Jacques Vert?
First Impression - Feel The Fabric
The dress and matching scarf are silky. So far so good.
The coat is polyester and feels slightly rough. I was a bit worried when I opened the delivery package and felt it. However, when you are dressed, the silk dress is next to your skin.
The dress is short sleeved. When you get hot, or sit down to dinner you might remove the coat. You could wear a silk vest or blouse with long sleeves under the coat to keep your arms against the smooth fabric.
I wear a long black waist slip as well, from Marks & Spencer. I have been wearing this for years.
The Washing Label
The washing label says size 12. Hand wash at 30 degrees. Iron low, on one. 100% polyester. Made in UK.
The Style
The dress is straight, and sleeveless. The length is ankle length on me and I am around five foot tall. Not so long that I trip over it. Just long enough to cover socks and not leave a gap above. You could call it maxi length.
The Size
Size 12 and tight on my tummy. However, I can't change it for a larger size. Because it was not from Temu nor Shein nor Amazon, from a seller with a whole range of sizes. The seller had only this a one-off second-hand item from ebay.
The Size And Effect
Fortunately, despite the dress being too tight, my husband liked it. He said, "You could wear it to a wedding. Not that we are expecting to go to any weddings."
When To Wear Smart Outfits
If you have no weddings, when can you wear your smart outfits? For birthdays. For Christmas. For New Year. To a church, synagogue or special occasion. On a cruise ship, at dinner time. For an annual dinner. When giving a speech, as a VIP or political candidate, to open or close a conference. As receptionist at an expensive restaurant or hotel.
In sales and PR, especially when selling a high value item, a house, car, wine, auction. At a new product launch.
At a fancy dress party, as royalty, a fairy Godmother.
To give yourself confidence in a court case, or an exam.
How To Wear A Matching Scarf
The long scarf can be worn doubled, tied once, top and underneth layers level. Alternatively let the top layer hang lower to cover the stomach.
Another option is to wear the scarf as a belt. Maybe that's why it is so long.
You could also wear it as a wide fabric headband.
The Mock Handkerchief
The pocket is not a pocket, but a decorative mock pocket. Its function is to dispaly the contrasting colour of the moch handkerchief. The Mock Handkerchief is sewn in place. It is small. It is folded in four. It has four points.
Making A Matching Headband
If I wanted a matching headband, I would cut off the lowest point off the handerchief to go on a headband. Or cut the end off the scarf.
The Colour Scheme Of The Pattern
The dress and matching scarf are pink and pale silver grey on a white background. The Long Jacket is more vivid orange.
The Colour Names for Pink and Orange
I thought the colour was orange. Then I thought it was pink. I saw something similar listed as peach. Or salmon pink. You might tick orange or pink in the colour specification boes on the left on ebay.
The silver sandals
Finding Something Similar
I tried to find something similar. I wanted to find out if it was from Jacques Vert. If it was current, I would be interested in another colour. Or a larger size. Or both.
Hints On Search Words
Search for a Polyester or synthetic coat so it doesn't crease.
What if you get no result. You just have to watch ebay all the time for one off items. If you want a three piece outfit, or a scarf to match, specify that.
Serach for a skirt suit, mother of the bride outfit, occasion outfit.
To Speed Up Searches
To speed up your search in ebay go to Gallery View. You will see items four across. That also makes it easier to compare two garments.
