Pockets - why do you need pockets? Post 564
Why pockets? For two, or more, reasons.
1 Holding things handy.
A hanky needed in a hurry, with an impending sneeze
At weddings and funerals. To help others. Baby wipes, toddler wipes, kiddie wipes. Toilet paper and drying hands. Removing lipstick before trying on clothes.
Or at the dinner table.
2 For Carrying Things
Keys. Money.
3 For Hiding Your Hands
Relaxing. Not working. Resting.
Slouching. Not writing.
Psychologically, feeling safe.
Protecting your tummy. And genital region.
Holding your arms down. Why? To relax your shoulders and straighten your neck.
Fan your fingers. Why? So that your forearms relax.
Hiding your hands. Concealing peeling nail polish.
One of the above. All of the above.
When wearing clothes on stage, public speakers need to keep their hands visible. Then it is easier to gesture.
However, pockets can be usef to conceal props. To get rid of a pen which was in your hand, insteadof putting it on a lectern, or music stand, which you move aside so that you can speak nearer the sudience to be seen and heard better.
Pockets have a whole array of uses in multiple situations.
For outdoor clothes, pockets are essential for keeping handy transport passes, and identity documents when entering buildings. They take loose coins at supermarket checkouts.
But when trying on clothes in a shop, pockets are vital
I put my hands in the pockets and immediately feel comfortable at home relaxed, free from doubting myself and my decision and the garment. I like it. I buy it.
Pockets In Coats
Pockets in coast can be used for these reasons:
To keep hands warm.
To store gloves.
To store small beanie hats and soft summer roll-up baseball caps.
The Polkadot Dress with Pockets
The polkadot dress with pockets has the label Bravissimo, and was bought from St Luke's shop in London.
Polkadot umbrellas are available from several suppliers, listed in my previous posts on polka dots.
Using Unwanted Pockets
If you don't need pockets at all, or not two, four or six, you can remove one pocket to use to fill in cleavage, under arm or side seam to enlarge a garment, to fill in the A line gap when slitting seams to convert shorts into a short skirt. If you still like a pocket, you can replace the pocket with another colour pocket bought online, or made from scraps cut from discarded garments.
Online Search For pockets
Using the search workk pockets may turn up plastic pockets and envelopes. If you add the words trousers, or clothes, or fabric, or repair, you will find pockets for adding to clothes.
