I have been buying dresses with matching jackets from Shein. These co-ordinated outfits look smart to go to dinner on holiday in a hotel or restaurant.
Shein Styles - Trousers (USA Pants)
Shein uses the words pants, wide leg pants, and causal pants. Shein and news (Daily Mail) and other social media sites (Facebook) show me Sheirn ads. They all bombard me with tempting ads for wide-legged one piece outfits or two piece outfits. And three piece Shein outfits with cardigan jacket, tank top, and wide leg trousers with elasticated waist, in multiple colours. I have saved some of these to Pinterest where I have a board called Dress of the Day, but it has so many pictures that I find it hard to locate anything. On this site you can search in blogspot within this blog for specific words. But I have so many posts, more than 500 that it helps to know the number of the post, and/or bookmark it.
Temu calls them palazzo pants, and summer pants. Other websites
I used to wear these and buy them years ago. Oddly my tastes in clothes have changed. Perhaps now that I have put on weight, after my pregnancy, stopping work and working from home, I also put on weight because of Covid and working in the kitchen on the table beside the fridge.
You would think that being post-menopausal and not having to worry about periods starting unexpectedly, I would be more in favour of trousers. But my husband prefers me to wear skirts.
Aside On Americanism Pants For Trousers
Americans say pants for garments which the British call trousers. Noah Webster. who published English language workbooks and Websters dictionaries to help immigrants to learn English. He was the one credited with being responsible for simplifying, or, at least, making the simplification of spelling and grammar widespread.
In St Luke's I bought a long-legged one piece outfit which you see in the picture. Let's start by discussing the colour.
Turquoise and Words for Blue and Green
The colour was turquoise and blue. Some languages have only one word, like our English word turquoise, which covers blue and green without distinguishing them. Which language? (I have made a later post about the language of colours.)
When I got it home I discovered it was backless, with a bib at the front.
When I put it on, I discovered that the bib had no neck ties, only a horizontal tube. I had left behind the matching tie.
Here is the loop at the neck. My thumbs are in it.
Another loop is at the centre back waist.
The tie/belt could also be worn as a belt.
The legs are long on me.
Later I went back and bought the co-ordinating top for another pound. and the tie belt which I think belongs to this part, not the little turquoise top.
Shortening Trouser Legs (legs of pants - to Americans)
I have watched several youtube videos or reels on Facebook on how to shorten jeans and trouser legs. The favoured system is not to cut the hem off, but to sew a horizontal inside pleat. That way the neat hemline, machine-stitched, is still in place. This is particularly useful if you don't have a sewing machines to create a neat hem, or you don't have the right strength and colour of thread.
The trousers are still too long for me to wear. I get up from my desk and I am likely to trip over. Even if I don't fall, at very least, the hem will get dirty.
Meanwhile, I am too busy to start sewing. I am online, on a Zoom call to a Toastmasters International speakers club in Indonesia when I am their Grammarian. I could turn off the video and sit and sew, whilst listening, and stopping sewing to make notes. But I won't.
So the sewing has to wait. Meanwhile, do these over-long trouser legs have any use? Yes. Now I have found a new advantage of the long trousers. To keep off insects so my legs don't get bitten. Win, win!
