What To Do With Surplus Scarves Post 583 by Angela Lansbury

The problem is you have surplus scarves.

Why would anybody have surplus scarves?

 1 Inherited

For example, from a hoarder mother.

Never mind sentimentality.  If you must keep it, use it as something new. useful and pretty and creative

2 Impractical

You no longer wear scarves because you are in a hurry. Practical reasons - they are a hazard when working

You moved to another climate. Evening scarves don't go with ski wear. Woollen scarves with matching mittens don't go with beachwear. Get organised

3 Unwanted gifts

You don't wear scarves - and not those colours and fabrics. Clear space so everything brings jo

4 Reorganised

Now all scarves are separated from matching outfits you have extras.

5 Downsizing

Moving somewhere smaller.

Or into second home or house-swapping and need space.

6 Modernising

Old-fashioned scarves have to go. Pass it on and update.

7 Buyers Remorse

It was cheap. You bought too many. The scarf colour doesn't match the outfit. Today you have the enthusiasm and courage to move on.

8 Scraps

Cut offs and belts and parts of sarees.

You thought  you would seam them up to make scarves or infinity scarves but never had time nor enthusiasm.

9 Luxurious Moneyspinner. Upcycling Aspiration.

Too smart for your everyday lifestyle. You could make something glamorous and sell it.

10 Recycling.

Hasn't been worn for ten years. Time to give it a new home whilst it is still in good condition.

Now we have recognised the problem, let's consider some solution.

Sort surplus scarves.

Sort into three sections.

Winter.

Summer daytime.

Glamorous evening.

Colour

Within each section sort by colour. I go left to right through the rainbow. Ending white then black, gold, silver, plain, patterned.

Multicolour could be another section at the end. Or pick the predominant colour. Or black. Or white. Or add to the shortest pile. Or put all the co-ordinating colours together to make a patchwork quilt, dress skirt or suit.

In 2025 split pattern dresses are in vogue, in style, novelties, attention getting.
