Sequins Skirt - In Attention-Grabbing Red - outfit 678 cheaper in the Peacock shop but I ordered online

Why Red Sequins?

I love sequins. Sequins sparkle. They get attention. They go with my other sequin outfits, tops.

Red sequin midi skirt on sale in the UK in December. I saw it in Peacocks in Borehamwood at £7.

Why Didn't I Buy From The Store?

My husband said I had too many clothes already. Besides, he did not like it. He said it was gaudy.

I felt it. I am afraid that sequin outfits will feel uncomfortable. But this one felt soft.

He marched out. I could have stayed, but we were on a one hour parking meter and had already spent time having a coffee.

I phoned Peacocks in Borehamwood the next day and the skirt was still available in several sizes. Even better, the price was reduced to six pounds!

But they would not put aside a sale price item. Nor post it.

Ordering Online - More Expensive

So I looked online. Ordering online I had to pay £15. Plus £3.99 postage. Thirteen pounds more (less one penny).

I could have taken a bus and train from Hatch End to Borehamwood, or three buses. My Freedom pass takes me to Borehamwood. Timewise, it would take me about an hour each way plus walking from Borehamwood station and buying the skirt.

Online I signed up for £10 off your first order by giving them your email and phone number, but the system seemed to lose me.

Sequin Clothes At Assorted Stores

I found a black sequin long skirt from another supplier at about ten or twelve pounds.

Skirt Styles

Most of the alternative skirt styles were pencil or mermaid. These are not flattering to anybody overweight, pear shape, over age fifty. These styles would be tight around the thighs and knees when sitting down, standing or going upstairs at railway stations.

Online Order Problems

Others online went up to a hundred pounds

I tried to order online without success. I had problems with Peacocks, Temu, Shein, even ebay, using their system, or Facebook, or Google. Everybody wanted a password and would not recognize me.

I have puzzled over this cost conundrum, and researched for days. I looked at the cheapest sequin skirts on Temu, Shein and Peacock.

I asked my husband, 'Would it be less gaudy in black sequins?'

He replied, 'I refuse to discuss this.'

I tried to phone Peacocks online sales department over Christmas but lines were busy. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, I tried again and got an operator.

Click and Collect

Click and collect was offered online at two pounds instead of four pounds standard postage. She could not give me click and collect from my local area. It was not collect from a supermarket or post office, only delivery to their stores, such as Watford Peacocks store.

When I tried to pay online with PayPal on the phone to her I got stuck. I got the total page and no PayPal page. She wanted my PayPal code. I wasn't giving that.

She asked for the page and we went though it while she tried to find the page I was on as a guest (because both Facebook and Google. Gmail have old emails which I can't access and won't recognize new emails and new passwords).

Finally, I looked down the left column and saw the cause of my problems. A box under delivery options asked if I wanted delivery to a store or by post. Once I clicked on by post, we proceeded.

The operator was able to take my PayPal at that stage. Up popped the page. I confirmed my phone number. Suddenly, success.

I can see why they charge more for ordering online. Firstly, it involves different staff adept at computing, different shops, and online 24/7. Secondly, the increased cost of paying the operator, because it seems to take longer going through all the online options than handing over card for a quick tap or cash in a shop.

Anyway, I now have to wait 3 to 5 working days for delivery. When it arrives I shall wear it and put up the picture.
