Curves And Scallops

I found this garment when searching for the word scallops in Ebay. I love the curves and scallops of the pattern. 

Curves are restful.  Curves echo eyes and mouths, bosoms and bottoms. Curves are soft, suggest cuddliness.

Squares, oblongs, rectangles, and triangles, straight lines, are businesslike, precise. The H shape of the neckline adds a touch of no nonsense class.

Figure-Ground Illusion

When you see the whole of the H shape top, the white pattern is silhouetted against thedarker background. However, when I wear the jacket covering half the pattern, the blue shows up against the white, like a diving whale's tail. 

I looked up optical illusions in wikipedia. I found that this is called a reversible image, or a figure-ground illusion.

Colours

Blue matches my eyes. The dark blue looks black at night indoors.

But I have added the red of the jacket which is cheerful and makes me instantly lively and happy.

The Top's Neckline Shape's Names

The names I have found are 

H shape top.

H shape neckline.

Ribbon neck camisole.

Wide strap top.

Several Hamells label items are on Ebay. You can buy short-sleeved blouses, and black evening dresses or shorter cocktail dresses.

The Black Vest Underneath

The black vest underneath the tank top is label Patra. The tank top is really summer weight and style, but I wanted to wear it because I just bought it. I also had to try it on as it arrived today and I needed to know whether it fitted and how it went with the matching blouse. So I looked for something warm to wear underneath, covering my upper arms and shoulders.

Twin Set - what is it?

The seller used the word twin set. To me a twin set is a knitted top and matching button up cardigan.

 The dictionary definitions online confirm my view that a twin set is knitted fabric. I have never heard the term twin set used for this kind of thin summer wear, and not knitted, but a two piece outfit.  I would call this pair a two piece. or tank top and blouse. But I suppose twin set is logical.

Hamells History

Hamells, with headquarters in Hertfordshire, north of London, England, had been around for 64 years, and had many shops. The company considered itself nudging behind Marks & Spencer. Then in the year 2000, it all came to an end.

Pearl brooches on hat paired with M & S sweater with pearls. Dress Post 686 by Angela Lansbury

    Sweater embroidered with mock pearls matches my hat pinned with mock pearl brooches.  I had never worn this pale grey sweater  I thought pale grey was a boring colour and always opted for something brighter such as royal blue or bight red. However, as I re-folded warm winter tops to fit them into my crammed dresser unit shelves, this fell out. Was the universe sending me a message?  I thought, I don't remember ever wearing it.  I must wear it once. Just for a change.  Snow is falling outside in London. Now is its hour. I looked  at the decoration. Sequins! I had been searching for sequins to wear at New Year. This thick sweater would not match my red solid sequin evening skirt. Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
