How To Buy And Sew On Sequins. Dress of the Day 700.
Inspiring Sequin Embellishment
I saw a silver sequin skirt in Marks & Spencer in the sale. I don't think silver flatters me, although I tend to wear silver jewellery which is less expensive to buy.
I loved the sequin roses and wanted to do the same on other garments. The roses were made up of different sizes of sequin.
Buying sequins
I went online and looked for sequins. You could buy huge quantities of one size of sequin at a high price. Fine, if you intended to use a lot, for a long time. But beyond my budget. However, I bought a small packet of mixed sequins.
Postage Costs - Extra or Free
The postage is the killer. The postage can cost ore than the product. So I looked for free postage. Often the free postage was on larger quantities or higher priced products.
Time Sewing Sequins
I then decided that the time taken to create the pattern of the rose, and sew each sequin on, was too time consuming.
Indigo Moon Sequin Clothes
My Indigo Moon clothes had many patches of sequins. |The clothes started too look good value, if each patch of sequins cost so much in products and time taken to attach them.
Sequin Braid
|I looked at braid with sequins. You could buy this braid or thick braid. You would need a lot to go around a skirt hem, or a waist, or vertically down a side seam.
Not so many across the top of a pocket. But you don't want to scratch your fingertips when using the pocket.
I did a search on E-bay for sequins. Up came a couple of garments with sequins on them. It was cheaper to buy a garment with sequins and cut off the patches, than to buy patches of sequins.
The Next Tee-shirt
From Ebay I ordered a Next tee-shirt. I bought the Next tee-shirt just for the sequin patches which I wanted to cut off.
The pattern was black and white horizontal stripes with sequin stars in pink and blue.
Only later did I discover, almost camouflaged, anchor shapes in teeny donut shape sequins.
It's hideous. Stripes don't go with superimposed stars. Black and white stripes don't go with pink and mauve. The stars would have been fine on white, or black.
I will wear it once as it is, to get my one pound's worth of wear out of the garment. Then I plan to cut out the stars to use on something else.
