Marks & Spencer Limited Edition White Tee-shirt outfit post 709 by Angela Lansbury

Reasons Not To Buy A White Tee-shirt in February

I was searching online on Ebay for clothes with sequins when up popped the tee-shirt. I hesitated. I was not looking for  summer clothes but long sleeved jackets, coats, and maybe a dress or suit. It was the wrong time of year for tee-shirts. I also did not like one pocket. Lop-sided.

Reasons Why I Bought It

However, it had sequins. Also it was by usually reliable Marks & Spencer. Plus it was reasonably priced. Under two pounds, plus postage, in total about five pounds. Not much financial risk. So I bought it.

The White Tee-Shirt from Marks & Spencer

The label said Limited Edition. Size 12.

What Is Limited Edition?

Limited Edition clothes are often seasonal. I thought most shops had seasonal clothes, except black and white underwear from Sloggi which is available for replenishing every season. Novelty is what fashion is, what fashion features, new colour or colours, changing colour with the seasons, bringing in something new to cheer the wearer and attract the wearer's admirers.

The Limited Edition items are more unusual, adventurous, offbeat, 'edgy', rather than traditional and classical. They are aimed at a young market. And affordable.

I don't know the price it sold as when new in the shops, but under two pounds even online is pretty reasonable.

However, I was not happy with the garment.

If this is Limited Edition, I am glad it was limited. It should not be repeated!

1 The Sequins Were Sub-standard

I'd never seen sequins like these before. No glamorous gleam. Let me spell it out. No gleam. No glamour.

Almost matt. Looked cheap.

Not the curved sequin. Flat. Not the small size. Were they supposed to be like that? Or just cheaper?

What Went Wrong?

I am usually delighted with Marks clothes. They often have extras, such as spare buttons, zips, linings.

Thin Fabric - Disadvantages

The fabric was too thin. Cold in winter.

Shows everything underneath. Clothes. Bras. Nipples. Visible line. You have to be very careful to wear an uplifting and uplifted bra. Hides nothing. Reveals all imperfections. Looks untidy and cheap.

Some people wear clothes to show off what is underneath Some people wear clothes to conceal what is underneath. The best clothes enhance your curves and conceal lumps and bumps. In the good old days a good tailor cut the cloth to conceal the imperfections of the wearer and make the garment hanging well and flatter.

Easily torn and will wear out soon.

Advantages Of This Fabric

Lightweight to post.
Lightweight to pack.
Lightweight so ideal if you have any injury and cannot bear wearing weighty clothes.
Quick to dry.

I can't blame the seller. They simply sell unwanted or overproduced goods at a discount price. They package and post.

In my opinion, the responsibility for disappointing a customer lay with Marks & Spencer. However, this is first time they got it wrong in my experience of buying from them for sixty years.

I'm glad this was a limited edition. It should not be repeated.

Seller Versus Manufacturer

The price and postage were low. Seller not at fault.

Photo was shown but does not really convey the lack of gleam.

To sum up - sad so-called sequins story

Seller fine, Very affordable item, under £2 less than postage.

Item packs light for post - came through the letterbox. Packs small and light for holidays.

But Marks, unusually, got it wrong. Disappointing, dire sequins, flat and matt.

Are they supposed to be unisex and daytime and non scratchy?

Thin fabric shows creases and everything underneath, visible lines. Looks like it won't last long.
In the early days of online buying the consumers worried that if you could not see the garments close up and inspect the quality, and feel the fabric, you might end up with inforeior or unsuitable goods. Online buying gets me more than fifty percent success, and the saving in time and money usually offsets the time to return items, the stress, and the financial cost.

Remedy?

I shall wear it round the house in summer. With a jacket concealing the short sleeves and the so-called sequins.

If I had time, energy, enthusiasm and skill I'd move half the sequins to make a second pocket, with better sequins sewn in a line above or below.

Black Skirt
Label Comfy Clothes, UK, which is no longer trading. I bought lots of clothes, outsize, loose shapes, at a discount when they went out of business. Made in Cyprus. You see the odd item every now and then on ebay.

Black Dickey
Many similar in white, or black and colours on Ebay and other online sellers, supplied new from China, various prices and weights of cotton, loads of styles.

Black Turban
From ebay. I bought various colours, one colour at a time. You will find them listed under turbans, African turbans, hats, caps, and hats for hair loss and cancer treatment.
