The label claims size 14, 36 ins bust 91 cm. However, as the seller on ebay described it, actually smaller.
It is a tight fit on me. When I put it on, standing up, I had to change out of a long sleeved vest into a light summer vest with almost no sleeve.
Even then, although I got get the arms on, as soon as I moved the arms pulled. It looked wide enough on the shoulders, but seemed tight across the back.
However, I put it on for the photo, and kept it on when sitting down for lunch. To my surprise, when I stayed sitting down, upright, hardly moving, I soon forgot that the top had felt too small. That is good news. I keep turning the little jacket over to see whether I could let it out. No luck. The lining is secured to the shell, so it would be a lot of work, with dubious success. Easier to diet until it fits!
The Petite Francaise Label
I saw several items on ebay and a few on Etsy, and other vintage seller websites. The clothes were mostly pale blue, black or red or multi coloured, a few dresses with matching coats, on Etsy three figure sums. Listed as a French label, and 1960s.
Occasionally clothes were listed as La Petite Francaise. I am not sure whether that is the same company, a mis-spelling, a sub division meaning a collection of a particular season. or another similarly named company, or copycat.
The Meaning And Spelling of Petite
Petit is small, masculine, and petite, with an e on the end, is small feminine. I have not used the cedilla which should be under the c to show it is pronounced like the letter s, because I have yet to find a way of doing that on my laptop. I could correct it by editing on my Samsung phone.
Why Buy Petite Clothes
Petite means small. A handy website pointed out that mostly petite means short of stature, not of girth, width. So the height of the bodice, or length of the leg, is shorter in petite sizes.
In theory, you can still buy petite sizes, if you are small and fat.
Why Not Buy Petite Clothes?
Buying petite clothes does not seem to work for me. Unless I go for batwing sleeves or flared leg pants, or swing skirts or wrap around dress styles of fisherman's pants styles.
Why
On the contrary, I do not want petite. I like long skirts, which are warmer in winter. Long skirts make me look taller. They hide fat ankles, or plump thighs.
So I go for large sizes. It is easier to take in garments in than to make them larger. I don't like having to unpick fraying seams. Then I need to find matching ribbons to expand seams vertically and sew up both sides of the ribbon.
But, on this occasion, on balance, my purchase was a success. And I now have an incentive to slim to fit the garment!

Temu has a huge number of scalloped edge items. Before reaching the clothes, I saw jewellery, tablecloths, handkerchiefs, and scarves, also braids and ribbons to sew onto your clothes. Finally I found bras, pants (underpants to Americans), shorts, bikinis and beach wraps, pants, sets of underwear, vests. tank tops, blouses, cardigans, half slips, skirts, dresses, jackets, and dress and jacket sets.
