How to hide your clothes, your face, your body, yourself and anyone else in a photo

Image
A classic way to put yourself into a portrait for a painter in the middle ages was to show yourself, the painter, in a mirror behind the sitter. Some film directors such as Hitchcock liked to include a tiny photo or caricature of themselves in the titles or moving images of a film (Americans say movie).  Others cast themselves as minor characters.  For comedy, comedians and actors change hats and accents to be different people. On Zoom you can lean in to the camera lens to appear larger, as in telling the sotry of Alice in Wonderland, and move back again to be smaller.  You can accidnetally, or deliverately obscure your face by holding your mobile phone. In a conference you could conceal your face by pretending to read the program. To conceal an advertising slogan on a t-shirt, hold up a newspaper or magazine. Religious Buildings Cover naked arms and shoulders in a religious building by taking a large scarf. For a woman to cover legs, take a wraaround skirt. Or a wrap aro...

Angela On stage with puppets - and how to make pop up puppets

Image
To make a simple pop-up puppet, cut a paper plate to remove a slice and glue or staple it together to make a cone with a hole at the tip. Insert a rod, wooden skewer or lollipop stick with a sock puppet on top. To make a sock puppet, just draw or embroider two eyes and a mouth, or buy face parts for DIY teddy bears, rag dolls and toys from a craft shop.  You can use an odd sock or an odd glove to make a puppet. You could also sew an old baseball cap onto a sock and add a pair of cheap or broken en sunglasses. How to Add Travel Props and National dress: SINGAPORE, TANZANIA, UK, USA, VIETNAM

Image
SINGAPORE  Singapore mask, washable, white, given free to every household, before National Day, by the government. Worn by Angela Lansbury at Changi Airport, Singapore, before departing for London, England, for son's wedding Why add placenames? I used to think it was naff to wear a t-shirt advertising a country, a cheap bag given by a tour operator, or to show the name and seasonal notices which outdated soon outside a building. However, self-captioning photos can be useful. I have often looked at photos and thought, which cathedral is that? Which country was I in? Which year was that taken? Who is that? A photo identifying a country is useful to set the scene for an opening shot. It ensures that a reader glancing though still knows the subject and gets the PR for the country or hotel or restaurant. I once submitted two photos of a hotel and a museum to a local UK newspaper. They switched the captions. When I told them which picture was which, they argued that they were right and I...
