Wear it as a tabard.  to make a shift dress from a large flag, use the whole flag, or use it oblong as the front of a tee-shirt or dress. Red Leather Belt: how we added holes at the Gogo shop in Larnaka, Cyprus, Post dress of the day 409

Image
Buying a belt was an afterthought. We set out to buy a suitcase. For my trip to Cyprus I had packed light in a ten kilo small size suitcase (cheaper than 20 kilos) checked in and only a handbag to carry on which both economised on our Ryanair flight from Stansted in London, England, to Pathos in Cyprus (the Greek-speaking side). However, after buying wine bottles, and clothes, we needed a larger suitcase for the return journey. In Larnaca, we went to a Gogo suitcase and travel goods shop. The lady in charge showed us their range of suitcases. The cheapest Suitcases from 15 Euros for a small pull along bag, were only two wheels. We wanted four wheels. In fact, much of the time, we had pulled the bags along on two wheels going up and down between the car park and the Stamsted terminal. That might wear out two of the wheels and eventually make the suitcase tip to one side.) On level ground, your suitcase pulls along lightly on four wheels. If you have not packed over-full so the suitcase ...

Cyprus map hat - the most useful hat. Post 408

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a Cyprus map hat (in Bonanza restaurant, Cyprus). Photo by Trevor Sharot. This map hat proved incredibly useful. As we drove around Cyprus for a two week holiday, I was often in the front passenger seat in a good position to read the signposts. Left or right? The voice from the Satnav would say third exit. The driver had a hard enough time working out which exit was counted and which was merely the entrance to a garage (patrol or gas station),  or house.  I was muddled by reading the lookalike names in Greek. I could identify the letter L, like an upside down V. But when we came to a T-junction, or roundabout, my reaction was not accurate enough or quick enough for me to guide the driver or confirm the direction the driver wanted to take. Saved By A simple Map I was having trouble remembering whether we were going to the city which started with L, Larnaka, on the East coast, or the other one starting with L, Lemassos, which was inland, and known ...

Riotous Red: Red Anthony Sicari top from Ebay, post dress of the day 407

Image
Angela Lansbury in vintage Anthony Sicari top. Photo by Trevor Sharot Red Anthony Sicari top. I usually prefer to buy Anthony Sicari in sets of three, top, skirt and co-ordinating scarf. But I could not resist this riotous red. Besides, articles from the USA to UK cost more in postage than the garment, but this was on ebay.co.uk so it was posted to my UK address at a lower rate.  I did not have a three piece matching outfit, so I had to add my own red items. Red Sandals The red sandals are Free-Step size 5. I wear them when travelling. If you have to removed shoes at security in an airport they save time. Also convenient if you need to remove shoes for a mosque or Asian temple or home. (Or somebody has a new white carpet and you can see they are in slippers and barefoot with a baby crawling on the floor and shoes on a rack by the doorl) Red Umbrella To complete the look I have a red umbrella. I use it against rain. You can use it against sun or simply to provide shade, at ho...

It has a handy spare button. 100 per cent cotton, although it has a slight sideways stretch. Orange Eyelet blouse. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Orange eyelet blouse, full length. It has a tie-together triangle. When I was a teenager in the England in the UK in nineteen sixties in summer we wore or bought broderie Anglaise (now known as eyelet), which was always in fresh white.  Now in the 2020s (writing in June 2022) the colourful Asian countries have impressed us with the fashion of eyelet garments in all colours.  Red, orange, yellow, dark green, black. White eyelet outfits can be enhanced by white nail varnish and white toe nail varnish with white sandals or open toe shoes. Orange Accessories To go with an orange eyelet dress, the ideal co-ordinated accessories would be orange shoes, an orange ...

405 Orange (coral) Travel shirt with Nosilife anti-insect fabric, sleeve tabs, and hidden zipped security pocket - dress of the day for several days when hiking on a holiday in Cyprus

Image
Angela with pomegranate juice, wearing the orange Craghoppers shirt in Cyprus. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The jolly, practical shirt I wore day after day on my hiking holiday was from Craghoppers. In a cheerful orange.  Although practical, also pretty, stylish. Two styles of wearing the collar, up and down. Tab shirt so you could wear sleeves above the elbow, or fully down for more elegant evening, in air conditioning. Also handy for entering a religious building with a dress code such as a mosque (as we did in Cyprus). Washing The item comes with two tabs to hang it up to drip dry. No need for a hanger. A hook will do. Or hang it from the hook of a hanger on which you have another item. I could wash out the collar and cuffs overnight. Even the whole thing if you take it off at 4 pm after your 5 hour hike, and wash and dry it partially in a towel. (Or you could use the room hair dryer - but I am cautious with synthetics, not wanting to turn them back into solid plastic.) The shirt has...
