Dress Of The Day with Angela

I am indoors and after two hours it is in place and has not slipped once.  Colour Of Hair Net The colour co-ordinates perfectly with my colour scheme which is red, reds. burgundy, orange, pink.  It contrasts with blonde hair. It would be neatly inconspicuous against dark hair.  Practical Use Of A Hair Net It stops hair falling across my face and eyes and ears and neck and getting tangled in my spectacles. My hair won't fall into my spoon nor bowl when I am leaning forwards eating. I could use it to stop my hair getting wet when showering. Unless I am washing my hair. Yes, I do have transparent shower caps leftover from visits to hotels. But I prefer to save them to use them to wrap around shoes when packing my suitcase. (Why? To protect my clothes from dirty soles, snagging buckles and Velcro - hook and close, and to keep both s...

  For years I have wondered what to do with nylon mesh fruit bags from supermarkets. Then today I had an idea Hairnet.

Colours Pink And Orange I was sold the small skirt suit as pink.  To me the appliqué has a slight pale blueish tinge. But the background colour is a stronger orange. The large jacket is closer in colour to mandarin orange. But I am happy with the combination. Sizes Too Small and Too Large. Too Tight, Too Small  The tight suit is not flattering. Without a tight foundation garment I look saggy and lumpy.  The large jacket hides that. The only problem with the small size is that the elastic is too tight.   For Going Barefoot  Going barefoot is fun, sensual. Some say it can improve posture.  But is it good for you, long term, in all weathers, in all countries, at all ages? Surely shoes offer protection? Sports shoes. Hiking boots. Snow boots.  As a child,  in the UK, I was warned about not going barefoot, in swimming pools and even other people's houses, to avoid picking up verrucas, athlete's foot and other infections. Clearly ill-fitting shoes can cause damage. Shoes which are too tight. Pointed. Making hammer toes. Bunions. Africa -Why Go Barefoot? I read one claim that 'millions of people go barefoot in Africa every day'.  Who says? What authority? What do people who do it in Africa say? What do doctors and hospitals in Africa say?   The Black Indigo Moon Skirt The black skirt has a salmon pink flower.

 This was the Indigo moon butterfly top, bought recently, October 2025, worn with a red Indigo Moon skirt, bought long ago, probably last year. The History of Indigo Moon Are Indigo Moon clothes still made? Indigo Moon clothes were made way back in the 19880s and 1990s.  But I was sent an orange, size small, outfit of top and skirt still with a tiny plastic bag or small spare sequins and warning paper label about colour change both attached with one plastic thread.  If you are smart, you could keep these bits, after removing them for wear. Then you could re-attatch them to benefit the next owner if you ever sell or give the clothing item away. Advantages Of Intact Hanging Labels You can ask more money for items with the label still attached, which shows the pristine item has not been worn. So it is in good condition. The fabric is less likely to have colour fade from washing. No over stretched elastic, missing or changed buttons, fraying edges, loose threads. The garment ...

 Possible Pockets To Add I want to add pockets. I like pockets. I sometimes search for items with pockets, two pockets, or with multiple pockets, or secure pockets, or hidden pockets. It could fall off a left down a clifside or into a waterfall. It's handy to have a pocket for important items, valuables such as credit cards.   My salmon pink tee-shirt does not really match the outsize orange jacket it came with. However, it matches the applique on the 'brown' jacket. The 'Brown' Jacket - Changing Colour In Light The 'brown' jacket looks brown at night. However, by day it is mottled, more of a mixed purple colour.  The fabric has slubs, thickened yarn. Shirt Under A Tee-Shirt I would call this a blouse, but shirt is alliterative with tee-shirt in my sub-heading. Why am I wearing a blouse under the tee-shirt? Firstly, it's a short sleeve tee-shirt. I should be packing it in a suitcase and putting it in the top of a wardrobe (closet to Americans) or under the bed or in the spare room, or an attic (loft to the brits), or in a storage facility. But I needed totry it on to give feedback to the seller on ebay, to see if it fits, to enjoy it. The ends of the white bow attached to the blouse prevent you from appreciating the pattern on the tee-shirt,, however tightly you tie the bow, and...

  I bought this Indigo Moon tee shirt on ebay. The Ebay website has loads of Indigo Moon items. I love the bright colours, the sparkly sequins, shiny fabric pieces appliqued on, the teeny tubular beads,, the big , bold lozense shaped beans. The patterns are great. Swirls and curls. Leaves and petals. This one has a butterfly in the middle. It has short sleeves. It was sold as part of a two piece set, with an orange jacket. As the tee-shirt was not photographed separately, I was suspected it was not a matching colour. I was afriad it might just be an odd tee shirt of another brand, but was pleased that it was indeed Indigo Moon.

Slot created by folding one end of scarf over another. Photo by Angela Lansbury. How To Sew A slot In A Scarf M first thought was that a slot is created by cutting a slit in the fabric. A slot in the left side wide enough for the right hand side of the scarf fabric to lay flat would cut the left hand side piece in two. The left hand side was hanging down when I lifted the right hand side. How about foldinng it up? You could not sew it up both sides of the left as that would stop the right pulling through. How about just a centimetre or two of firm stitching? That worked. I wanted to be sure the slot was wide enough. The end you thread through could be rolled up but I thought it would look neater laid flat. I have seen similar items, ranging from about six pounds and fifty pence on Amazon, not white,...

 

 I wanted a new warm headscarf made from a learge scarf with a hole or slit cut in the middle.  My first thought was to vut a semi circular hole using  a saucer, then a slit vertivally in the centre front. Then I though that an existing hat . What could I do with the cut out circle? Make two half moon pockets? Or rabbit ears? Would the circle be large enough? I used a pink knitted beanie hat as a template. But why spoil the scarf by cutting out a circle? A straight line cut is easier to sew inconspicuously if you want to shorten the slit or cancel it completely. I thought of using newspaper to create a pattern, held together with sticky tape.  I was unpacking my suitcase from a trip to New Zealand earlier this year when I came across a bright yellow fabric tote bag. I did not need a bag. But I looked at it. The colour was what i call screaming yellow. With large white circles or discs, a bit like large polka dots, but too big to be comfortably called dots. Mysterious Unusual Straps The bag was large and had wide handles. Something strange about it. What were those handles for? They were slotted through large reinforced buttonhole style slots. So the handles slipeed through as if you could adjust the bag in some way. Why were the handles through slits at the base of the bag as well as the top? Was it for carrying a baby on your front or back? I looked at the label giving the brand name, Notabag. Why not a bag? Not just a bag, but something else as well, too long to put in the brand name. You can buy a skort (shorts with a shirt cover, which hides a pocket.  Dresses, long for winter, have pockets. Shirt waisters often have two large pockets on the chest.\ I bought a n A5 notebook with an elastic band to hold a phone. Google kept finding me South Africa, hotels called South Lodge, loding in the south of the USA.  I did find one South Lodge top on etsy. The top which was cream colour was described as vintage by the seller. But it had no sequins nor embroidery.  I was not tempted to buy. Nor even show you, my dear reader, the picture. What can you pack as a precaution? For extra security, washable pads are useful. I have seen them in plain colours or flower pattern. I think the plainn colours are less conspicuous, look more like they are part of the garment. From Temu. For a severe case, when you must travel, for example, to catch a flight home, or for an onward journey, on a plane where you are likely to be stuck with the seat belt sign on, some padded pants (Americans  say underpants) could be a help. Airline Pany Liners And Tampons Most airlines, the longhaul journeys, have toilet cubicles where drawers contain items such as toothbrushes and combs, plus pads and tampons in an unmarked compartment.   Anthony Sicari Outfit The Anthony Sicary outfit consists of a tknitted white top with a pleated skirt. I wanted the lively pattern of the red, white and blue and green to look lively and smart when I was on stage.  The Top The sleeves are short, so I wore a white long-sleeved blouse underneath.  For added warmth, I added blue mock velvet track suit trousers, over red and black leather boots. The Boots The boots are wide acrooss the toe, like Crocs.This pair is red, with heart shaped leaves like petals arranged in a circle to make a flower on the toe.  Searching Ror A Replacement Waistband Taking clothes out of storage, after moving from one country back to another, I found some old clothes. Lovely clothes. But alas, some of the skirts were too small. Maybe I had grown larger, Maybe I had made a mistake buying on the internet. I needed to make alterations. I had pleated skirts to alter, and skirts with gathers, and tight skirts with very little spare fabric.  Missing Waistband After Alteration I had made one skirt wider by removing the waistband and flatterning out the gathered part. When I put back or left on the waistband, half of it was missing. I could have taken off all the waistband. I decided to leave part of it at the back. Insert a small contrasting section at the front. I could have hidden the new part at the back under a long jacket, but that would have left gathers at the front. I wanted the skirt flat over my front, with more give at the back when sitting down.
