Seasonal Ties, Patterns or Plain Shirts, and Plaids post 677 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Martin Doe, President of HOD Speakers' Club, which meets in South Harrow at a church meeting room, near South Harrow station, twice a month. Martin is wearing a season tie featuring Santa and a Christmas tree, for the last meeting of 2025 on Thursday Dec 18th, with the theme of Christmas and seasonal celebrations. Seasonal Ties A seasonal tie is a handy thing to have. You can put it on or take it off quickly when you want to look festive for a party after work. A tie costs less than a seasonal jumper, mostly. Although you can often buy both jumpers and ties on sale after the season is over. The tie label says New Tast. The name is within a triangle. Seasonal Symbols The objects depicted include  green trees,  buildings with white snow rooftops, and brown walls Santa with a big, bushy white beard, white moustache and white eyebrows  wearing red clothes with white trimming. Yellow eight point stars blue baubles on the tree Red candles with yellow flames a red drum br...

Undress Of The Day, For Weddings, Dances And Events post 676 by Angela Lansbury

Image
My mobile phone keeps showing me sets of three dresses on Facebook, some worn by models, four dresses, or occasionally two dresses, worn by tall models, mothers of bride or groom, bridesmaids or other guests. Sometimes barrel shape bodies or pregnant. The text implores - help me choose A B C or D. Let's start with colour. Black Tie At a formal wedding the man wears a black tie, and a black suit.  The bride wears white. Not black! That's for funerals.  SLIT AND SLUT Cleavage Sometimes two or three dresses or all of them are slit from the cleavage to the waist. You can wear a V neck without showing cleavage. Kate and William, in their wedding clothes. Thigh Slits Sometimes two dresses, in 2025, three or all dresses are slit from the ankle to the waist on one side.  Yes, it enables you to walk or dance in an absurdly revealing, tight dress. A bottom-hugging obscene dress, which makes your bottom stick out behind, and your tummy stick out in front. And your wide hips lo...

Wrap Dressing Gown Converted Into A Zip-up outfit 674 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Dressing Gown With Zip Hand Sewn. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I added a zip to a dressing gown from Debenhams. Red Wrap From New Zealand This dressing gown has the Label Intimo. From New Zealand. Maybe I bought it from a charity shop there when on holiday. It is 100 per cent polyester, so no bleach, no tumbling. This red wrap-around dressing gown had been hanging up on the back of an over the door hanger in the shower room for goodness knows how many months. Others which are similar have been unworn for years. I don't wear wrap arounds. They look pretty. Light. But impractical. Untidy. Show too much leg to strangers if I have to answer the front door to a postal delivery. Flap open and trip me up. Chilly in winter and mid season. Reduce self-respect and status because they shout, I haven't been bothered to get dressed. Lop-sided. Lose the belt.  What a shame that lovely silky satin fabric garment did not come with a zip. But what if I decide to add a x#zip. I looked...

Sparkly Xmas jumper from Next - 0utfit Idea 671 from Angela Lansbury

Image
Season Xmas jumper with santa, snowmen and trees. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Her sister bought it for her this eye-catching seasonal jumper one Xmas. It comes out every year. The pattern is green trees, red Santa hats, white snowmen - with fluffy white. Plus the sparkles. Seasonal Knitting Pattern Ideas If you are a knitter, or have a knitting machine, or a friend who knits, you could copy the idea of a row of green trees, or a row of white snowmen, or a row or red Santa hats, on a neutral colour background. Or just one big tree, or three in a row, or a triangle of three trees. They could be small like on this jumper, or one large one. or one left and one right, or three in a horizontal or vertical line. Sequins and Braids Add some rows of sequins. I find sequins fiddly and tedious to sew on. You could buy a braid of sequins.  Sew horizontal lines, or a frame for your design, oblong or oval, or heart shape. Add Pearl buttons or Brooches Another idea is to add pearl buttons, f...

Warm Clothes For Winter - Anthony Sicari Red Three Piece Suit With Scarf Outfit 670

Image
Red Anthony Sicari top and scarf with white blouse. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Red Anthony Sicari top and scarf with white blouse. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Anthony Sicari Red Suit Outfit Worn In Winter I added a thick skirt for warmth when travelling in the British winter.  only when I did a search for a picture of the outfit on this blog did I discover that the outfit came with a thin pleated skirt, which had become detached from the top. Slips for Warmth I added a red satin half slip. It had a zip. It was converted from a pair of red satin wide leg trousers I had never worn. Jolly red. Pretty. Elegant. Then I added another slip in black. Bulky, admittedly. I was more concerned about getting cold walking to and from a station, sitting on a station platform, and walking to my destination from the central London underground train station. Blouse For Warmth The white blouse also adds another layer for warmth. They say, dress in layers. If I got too hot, I could remove one or b...

Black and red roses top, classy item from Klass - post 669

Image
Black Top With Roses, label Klass, worn by Monica. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Black Top With Roses, label Klass, worn by Monica. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Klass is sold in shops and department stores. Monica is her English name. In Greek it would Monika with a K. The Word Klass I wondered whether Klass was German for class. Klasse is German for class, meaning quality, or a school or evening class. Without the e, Klass is a German surname, or, as we say nowadays family name.   The Clothing Company Klass Their website says they are a family business with 150 stores in England and northern Ireland. Established back in 1988. How did I miss them for so long.! Anyway, I have now discovered them. They also have a collection called Anna Rose.  Reductions From Klass Clothes 1 Their website says free delivery on items over £30.  2 They currently, I am writing on Sunday December 7th 2025, have a sale on. 3 You also get a discount offer if you sign up...

Is Christmas Celebrated Everywhere Like In England? With Red Santa Hats? Post 667

Image
Angela wearing her red Santa hat. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  I ran an online club meeting with the theme of seasonal celebrations for my public speaking group Online Dynamic. I wore a red santa hat with white edging. This is recognized in many if not most countries of the world. Santa hat used as a prop to advertise the club's Christmas theme meeting. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I wore the same hat yesterday at the physical meeting of HOD club. I used the seasonal hat again in an online poster  Promoting our next HOD meeting, combined with a party and party food. Online for Online Dynamic, an Indian lady who splits her time between Mumbai and Dubai said she thought that Christmas was celebrated everywhere the same as England. With Christmas trees. And an angel on top. And parcels containing gifts underneath. And Christmas pudding containing alcohol. She lived near a Catholic church in Mumbai. She said it was very jolly at Christmas time. Christmas markets. And on the evening of ...

Wedding Dresses, White, Which Length, Black Tie, Wartime Wedding, and Over-Sexed Dresses Post 666

Image
I keep getting requests on Facebook to say which of three dresses a bride or brother of the bride or guest should wear to a wedding. Often it is a black tie wedding. Wedding Colours - Black Tie First, regarding colour. Black tie means men wear black ties. Co-ordinating with black suits. Sometimes dark blue. My wedding photo from 1976, showing black tie. Photo by Angela Lansbury. It does not mean that women wear black. Unless specifically requested to do so, rarely for a bride, and all her bridesmaids, to wear black, or a black and white colour scheme. Black For Funerals In the UK black is traditionally worn by mourners at a funeral, sometimes by the entire congregation. Men and women. If your hotel has a wedding and a funeral, you want to be sure that the doorman points you to the correct reception room.  The Bride Wears White In The West This fashion was started by the wedding thrown by Queen Victoria for her daughter. White was impractical in the days before washing machine...

Painted a bracelet with nail varnish Post 665

Image
Red Multicolour Bracelet I have a red bracelet with streaks of gold and colour. It looks good with both red and green outfits. I wear it on my left wrist.  I have another green bracelet which has larger round green beads and spacers, but plain green.  It has small white spacers. I could wear a red, white and green outfit to match both bracelets. Or green. Mostly I wear all red, or red and white, or red and black outfits. The green bracelet goes with everything, but could match the other bracelet better, and could match more outfits. It co-ordinates with green, and contrasts with red. Plain Green Bead Bracelet I looked at the green bracelet and thought, maybe I could paint that like the red one. Where can I find paint which won't irritate or poison my skin? I looked at my nail varnish. Just the thing. On the green bracelet you can see traces of the colour I applied on one side. I did not take a picture before painting. But I painted a small streak or bigger blob on each o...

Waist Elastic Gone! No elastic needed! Post 664

I looked at a garment with a tie at the waist. A bow in the middle. Then I realised. I could do not with a pair of pyjamas which had overstretched elastic. Instead of needing elastic, I could make a temporary fix with a piece of ribbon.  It needed to be fixed to the garment in one place so that it didn't pull through. It also needed to be a wide flat ribbon, not a piece of string which would cut into me. I would prefer one which looked good when tied into a bow or left hanging when on a hanger or folded up. Problem solved. A short piece of elastic could be inserted in the centre back. Maybe cut from another garment. Or simply to save time of money. I could also use the original elastic for half way round, adding a decorative ribbon the front. Please share links to your favourite posts. Bookmark and follow my blog .
