Other websites say the word polka dot came from the clubs in America which danced the polka. Popularity of Polkadots At first polkadots were seen as cheap and cheerful. Elegant Polkadot Outfits Classic white on black or black on white looks most elegant.  But for fun you can get all sorts of backgrounds, different sizes, subtle or statement. When I phoned for umbrella repair, I found that the cost of repairing an umbrella matched the price of an expensive umbrella. I could buy a new umbrella much cheaper. However, if you have an antique umbrella, or a favourite colour which matches all your outfits, or if you have birthday money to spend, you might be more iterested in the service than the price. In Singapore I used to find a large number of umbrellas left near the bins, or half hidden in bushes. At first I was reluctant to touch them, not wishing to spoil somebody'd day, or being accused or blamed for pinching somebody else's umbrella.  However, after checking out one obviously borken umbrella, then another, I soon found that almost all umbrellas which look like they are abandoned are broken.   Searching For Pretty Patterns I typed in the word dots and up came Polka dots. The websites which were at the top were Shein, Temu and Marks & Spencers. More from Primark and TK Max. Colour Choice  Shein had a huge range of colours. Brown dots might match your hair, skin, eyes, or other garments, or shoes.  I liked red dots Lively. Jolly. Red goes with red lipstick, and red accessories. The word spotted or spots came next. That brought up the websites of Dorothy Perkins. Coast. Next. Amazon.  Choice of Blouse Styles Amazon has many different styles of polkadot tops. Shirt style, bare shoulders, ruched, Choice of Umbrella Styles Folding umbrellas are often flat when unfolded. This shows your face more. But exposes you more to rain. They may blow inside out easily when caught by a gust of wind. Coopers of Startford offer windroof umbrellas. They look elegant. The sleeves' arms are wide enough at the shoulder to always feel comfortable. The Cuffs Which Help Hide The Wearer and What's Worn The cuffs are knitted and wide. So thay grip your wrists. They cover a multitude of sins, as the saying goes.You can hide underneath the sleeve and cuffs, a non-matching blouse or long sleeved thermal vest.  Hide brown age spots. Hide wrinkled arms. Hide fabby arms. Hide prominent veins. Hide bruides.  Hide scars and bandages from a uicide attempt. (Not me, but the daughter of somebody I know - she wore lace gloves to dinner to hide the bandage on one arm.)  Hide a watch whose coloured strap doesn't match. Instant Paper Hat Crown or Tiara I had saved some hats from Xmas crackers, but no time to look for them. I spotted a pice of pink tissue paper. If you need a birthday hat in a hurry, grab some tissue paper, fold concertina wsie. Cut a v shape at the top through all the layers. Write happy birthday using a black felt tip pen  if you have more time and you are handy with a needle, or not handy with a needle, consider a glove birthday hat. Two gloves gives you up to ten candles. You can sew the complete gloves, or just the fingers. You could add the fingers on top. \ Or cut holes in the hat and pull the fingers through from underneath. If necessary, then cut the palm of the glove away from the fingers.  Depending on the size of the hat and the glove fingers, you might leave the fingers in a line.   These smart trousers probably cost a fortune. You could buy tassel braid to enhance your own white trouser legs, or white jeans.  Americans say pants for trousers.  I would cold wash, or wash the braid, or at least a sample or section before sewing it on. You want to be sure it won't shrink more than the other fabric. Coloured braid could also be dramatic, and you might choose braid to match your top.  You want to be sure the coloured braid doesn't run in the wash and stain your garment. If you already have a stained hem, to trousers or a skirt, you canuse a braid to cover it. Stains You can buy products to wash out stains. Or keep washing. Or tie-dye. Or sew more patches over the stain. Or dye the entire garment another colour. The same colour as the stain. Or a dark colour superimposed to hide it. Turn trousers into treasure. Perfect your pants.
