Hat decorated with mock pearl brooches and hat pins as trimming, outfit of the day.662 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I decorated my white winter hat with a large mock pearl brooch and two mock pearl hatpins. On Wikihow I found demonstrations of paper hats. Nothing like this. Other sites show mostly adding fake flowers. Amazon has books on millinery, making and trimming hats. Please share links to your favourite posts.

Does the bride need to wear white? Any Alternative? A Double Dress? Outfit idea 661 by Angela Lansbury

Bride Angela. Photo copyright Angela Lansbury. Royal White Wedding Dress - An Enduring Luxury Fashion  White was a fashion set by Queen Victoria's daughter. White and came to signify a rich person who could afford to wear a new, delicate, dress. White Wedding Dress - Pure, not Practical White White is clean. It symbolised purity, virginity. . After getting grubby would never be worn again, not a practical dark colour.  Virginal White Girls who were not virgins, or who were visibly pregnant, or on a second marriage, would wear a pastel colour but not white. Attention-Getting White White was also an attention getting colour. A contrast to everyone else. At a large wedding it helps the photographer, and latecomers wishing to find the couple to congratulate the groom (who traditionally was the pursuer, and compliment the bride. You can find the bridal couple when you want to say goodbye and leave. Alternatives To White Dresses If the bride has set her heart on another dress, or co...

Moth Traps - My Latest Find post 660 by Angela Lansbury

Image
'We already bought moth traps,' says my husband. I retort, 'Yes, but they expire after 3 months.'  We got three of five and you need more than one in a big room. We have clothes, towels, curtains, tablecloths, carpets. Windows in every room. Two sets of cupboards in three bedrooms, that's six. Without bedclothes. 'Okay,' he concedes. 'They are not expensive.' Five minutes later I see he has ordered them from Amazon. Different ones from last time. The ones we ordered previously did not seem to work at first. I checked after five minutes. After a day. A week later. Were they not effective? Or was my moth problem imaginary? Were my clothes simply dying of old age, disintegrating? That must have been weeks ago. But then I moved one recently and looked inside and found a moth. Only one. But one living moth laying eggs, ruining one garment, is one too many. And one caught is a success story. Using The Moth Trap You have to read the instructions but they ar...

Green Dress Of the Day - Mandy Pothecary Blouse outfit 659 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Green blouse, green jumper and green and yellow boots. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Copyright. Angela's Green Blouse 100% silk. Label.Mandy Pothecary. Suit Seen On The Web Gives Decade I searched the web and found a skirt suit on Etsy with the same label. The seller was IntoTheWoodsWear. The suit had sold for 120 pounds sterling. The seller said it was vintage 1970s by designer  Miranda Pothecary under her label Mandy Pothecary. I think I must have bought my blouse reduced as a second quality item, because the colour is vivid white, green and blue but there are three tiny patches of white on the coloured parts. A second item, a dress with straps, turned up on a website new to me, Worthpoint. The garment's owner bought it in the USA. Says it is a liberty print from Liberty Of London. Ditsy small repeating pattern. Rare. Vintage 1970s. Angela's Mandy Apothecary blouse.Under the jumper you cannot see the white patches. Photo by Angela Lansbury. The green looks blue and doesn'...

Yellow and green genuine leather ankle boots outfit 658 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Yellow leather ankle boots with yellow and green petal sewn on flowers. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  Copyright. I already have both red books and black boots in this style. They get constant compliments. The inside sole of one of my boots wore down. I covered it with a loose inner sole cut to fit. I looked online. My inner sole seemed a success. But I still needed to check the availability of a replacement pair of boots. Since the red pair was still wearable, why not buy another colour? In previous years I had rejected the yellow version, because it would match fewer outfits and probably get dirty and shabby quicker, with less chance of an inconspicuous repair. The black ones could easily be restored using paint-on black leather touch up. I put the yellow ones I found at two different prices into the out tray or cart on a couple of websites on my laptop. However, when I looked later, the dearer one had already sold out. When I found the cheaper one available, I decided to make...

Disguising holes in a jumper by sewing re-dress 657 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Knitted top with holes. The jumper label is Radley. Disguising Holes I was shocked to see it had three holes. Were they caused by moths? Did I need to fumigate by putting the garment in the freezer for three days before sewing? I wanted to wear the top. I decided to sew it straight away, before the holes pulled further. Moth Cure And Prevention I ordered moth traps. In previous years I bought white moth balls, then wooden discs, round and square with central holes so you could hang them on the necks of hangers. Then sachets of white moth killer.  I sewed them up with white cotton. You would hardly notice. See Through Tops However the two marks in the centre of the photo are the buttons on the blouse worn underneath.  To preserve the neat effect of the collar, instead of changing to another blouse, I could add a white tie.

NeonySweets, workout leggings with pockets dress of the day 656 by Angela Lansbury

Image
These leggings have two great advantages.  Pockets Leony Sweets leggings pockets. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Number one is the pockets. I love pockets. The pockets are small, but stretch big enough for my smartphone in its case Lying neat and flat, the pockets are big enough for a paper hanky (Americans say tissue}.But any pocket is better than no pocket. I think I must have found these in the one pound rummage box in St Luke's Hospice charity shop in Hatch End. I would have looked at them and thought, pretty pattern, too small for me, wait a minute, great pockets, maybe I can cut them out and add them to another garment. Only one pound. Cheaper than buying pockets. Or use them as decoration.  When I got home I tried on the leggings and was amazed that I could just about get into them. They were so stretchy. Tummy Control As for the tummy control, for me the main advantage was not the appearance, but that I felt comfortable with my tummy held in. No exercise w...
