Red Thai silk dress, outfit 329

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a red Thai silk outfit. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Tunic The matching skirt The red skirt is wrap around. My friend Titin from Indonesia called it a cheongsam. Yes, I supposed it is. I have several of these in different colours. Bright red, worn here. Royal blue background. Wine colour. You can buy reasonably priced sleeveless tank tops in several colours on ebay from Thaistyle asia. Also tissue box covers, cushions, men's boxer shorts, men's short sleeve shirts. They may be a bit shapeless. Depends whether you like your clothes fitted or roomy and relaxing. What Is Thai Silk? Ebay is presumably quite strict about describing silk, because several of the websites describe their products as faux silk. Faux is French for false. But the French sounds much more complimentary than the equivalent English world. I get lots of compliments on this outfit. Chinese Knots Notice the black Chinese knot fastening at the neck. If you want to buy the Chinese knots, they...

Tie to Dye for, outfit 328

Image
Richard Pull in H & M tie. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I asked Richard Pull, "Why did you choose that particular tie?" (I thought he would say, because blue is my favourite colour, or, it matches my suit.) He replied, "It's my favourite." I persisted, "Why do you like it?" He answered, "Because I painted the stripes on myself." H & M The label on the tie reads H & M. The H & M company is huge. They started in Sweden. The H stood for hennes, meaning her, in Swedish. Celebration lace slit sleeve, outfit 327

Image
At a family party I made a new friend whose outfit I admired She wore a red lace top with a wide sleeve. She could not remember where she bought it. However, I thought the slit sleeve was an interesting idea. It gives your forearm more freedom of movement. But, most importantly, it also looks most attractive. If you slit the sleeve on a garment which you have bought, your item becomes different from everybody else's.  I loved my new friend's top. In summer she wears it without black sleeves underneath  She is wearing the black garment underneath for warmth. An additional bonus is that the black top can match a black skirt to create a unified outfit. Please share links to your favourite posts.

Neck warmer under blouse collar, outfit 326

Image
Neck warmer and blouse. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I put  this neck warmer over the blouse. But it did not match the jumper. It matched the blouse. It hid the pretty collar. The neck of the blouse was gaping.  I pulled up the neck warmer. It raised the collar. It filled the gap. That moved the collar up to hide my craggy neck. The outfit looked neater because the neck warmer is hidden. You could do this with neck warmers, like short tubes. Of scarves. Use the neck warming  device on top of the blouse but under the collar. Neck Warmer No label. Blouse Shein. I love the colour combination. The background is fresh looking white. The pattern is pretty pink and businesslike gray. Gilt Elephant Buttons on collar Sewn on by Angela. How To Choose a tartan - for clans, tourists, religions, US states, outfit 325

Image
When I was a student I wore a a black watch tartan tunic. The dark colours, black, dark green and dark blue, co-ordinated with black accessories such as shoes. Dark colours looked good with my hair which was then a dark mousy brown.  When I went to Scotland several times as a tourist from England. The shops in Edinburgh and all over Scotland sold tartans in all colours. As a tourist I simply went for the colour I liked. Unfortunately complete outfits were beyond my budget.  I knew that an army brigade wore black watch tartan in the old days. I was dimly aware that on ceremonial occasions different groups of the military, guards, and civilians would march in identifying colours. I wore tartan because I liked the pattern. In Scotland I was offered tartans as a tourist. Now I wear a lot of red. As a child I wore blue to match my eyes. My school uniform was dark green. I liked red to get attention, especially as I am being photographed, travel and am short of sleep and need red to...

Tartan Blouse and Gordon Tartan Headscarf, dress, Scottish plaid 324

Image
Angela Lansbury in tartan blouse and Gordon Tartan headscarf. Dress 324. photo by Trevor Sharot. I was looking for tartans to wear when I gave a talk on Scotland, Scots language, Scottish people. I found a blouse but was not sure I could identify the tartan. Then I found a scarf. The label clearly identified it as Gordon tartan. If you buy a kilt, it comes with a white blouse with a jabot (centre front frill in white descending at the neck). Long white socks contrast with heavy black shoes. A decorative sporran.  (A sporran is a fur pouch hanging down on a string from the waist as a purse). Shortened black dress and infinity scarf from the hem, worn with blue, post 323

Image
Angela Lansbury in Dorothy Perkins dress with cut hem. Photo by Trevor Sharot Was it a dress or a slip? It was long and black and thin with spaghetti straps. I decided it was a dress. The fabric had a very faint diagonal pattern. The Big Little Black Dress Firstly, the black dress was not little, It was UK size 16. Maybe that accounted for the length.    Secondly, the Little Black Dress was not little, but too long. So I cut off the hem.  The Scarf I was left with an infinity scarf. The scarf filled in the neck of the spaghetti strap dress. The Blouse  Too much black around the face. Funereal. Dull Depressing. So I added a black and white and grey and pink patch geometric pattern shirt from Shein. The Hooded Jacket The blue hooded jacket was needed for warmth.  Boots I had warm ankle length boots.  The material is real leather. At least the stretchy part around the ankle. The sole is synthetic.  With a zip at the back. Bliss.   The Black Dres I ha...

How to avoid pricking yourself with pins when turning up a hem 322

Image
You have four options. 1 Use safety pins. Keep the safety pins with the pins. 2 Keep the ends of the pins between the two layers of fabric by sticking the end inside the top layer. 3 Make sure the end of the pin goes in and out until only a tiny piece is sticking out, not a centimeter or even half a centimeter but a millimeter or two and the same in the previous dip in and under so if one dip of the pin end sharp comes out the next one may hold 4 If you have no safety pins, pins, or needles, use brooches.  Please share links to your favourite posts,

Online second hand clothes opportunity to buy or sell 320

Image
I was looking for silk suits, skirt suits, to show you wahat you could buy and wear if you fancied a skirt suit like the one from Patra shown in my prvious blog post. I googled Patra silk skirt and on about my fourth search up came a company which was new to me, Thrift plus. They have been going since 2017. How did I miss them! Instead of dealing with the individual seller, like on ebay, you deal with a warehouse, like the thrift shops such as Refash which I used to frequent in Singapore at Bukit Panjang and other places.  Check out their story and their products.  Useful Websites Buying clothes https://thrift.plus/our-story EBAY ebay.co..uk ebay.com ETSY etsy etsy.com vinted https://www.vinted.co.uk/ depop https://www.depop.com/gb/ Buying and Selling in Singapore https://refash.sg/ Selling clothes https://www.top10best-ecommerce-websitebuilders.co.uk/gb/online-store/ https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-13292319/Ebay-cuts-fees-selling-clothes-cheaper-Vinted...

Pink and green for spring, dress of the day 319 - with unique button spacing

Image
Dress of the day, pink and green for Spring. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Copyright. The Skirt Suit The Skirt The skirt has two thin white hanging ribbons, looped ribbons for hanging on a hanger. Supplier/Brand/Label The skirt and  button-through blouse are from Patra, London, UK. The company started off with silk clothes but now do blends, bamboo, cotton, and other fabrics.  Another Patra label is in the USA and that company makes evening clothes more expensive than most of Patra clothes, although the Patra clothes prices seem to me to be climbing. I look for sales and second hand clothes.  If you simple google Patra you are likely to get the company you don't want (in my case I don't want Patra usa because of both styles and postage costs). That might happen if you Google, or search on ebay. However, if you search regularly the system might remember you, or you can log in 'save this supplier' in Ebay. The suit fabric pattern is Paisley, dark and light greens with beig...

Button up dress by Berkertex, blue dress of the day 318

Image
Angela in blue Berketex buttoned dress. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Copyright. Button Up Dresses - Downmarket? When I was a child, the only people who wore button up dresses were food shop workers who wore cheap dresses and overalls and had their hair in nets. I associated button up with work uniforms. However, a button up dress is now one of my favourites, when called for breakfast. I used to think a pull on dress was quicker than all those buttons which have to be done up. But now I find the reverse is the case., quick to put on like a jacket, then do up the buttons, one by one, discreetly under the table.  A button up dress has advantages and disadvantages. The Advantages of Button up Dresses Flexible Fit   You can leave the bottom buttons undone to feel free or look sexy. Handy if you are out, climbing up stairs, on and off buses, up escalators in underground stations. Fill In Neck The neck buttons also can be done up to be discreet, and warm. Warm in winter. Warm in air ...

How to knot neatly when tying the blouse ends together, post 317

Image
How To Tie Your blouse/shirt Ends Neatly I watched a demonstration of tying the efront ends of a w shaped blouse together. Unlike many videos which show you a doxen ways to wear a sarong, leving you unable to remember any of them, this was one simple demonstration. I watched it three times and got it. Simple. You tie the knot loosely on the left side. thread the right hand end through it. Job done. Quick and easy. The Sponsor Of The Ad - Selling Blouses \The lady doing the demo was claerly selling blouses. She had a rack of them behin her. Red stripes and black stripes on white. Fine. She was doing a demo which showed how to wear her blouses pulled tightly to enhance your big bust and small waist. A bare midriff, maybe. Nothing loose nor hanging untidily.  Made a good start to my day.All kudos ad thanks to her. (She ight not be the shop owner, just a model. Judging by her nervous blinking. Identifying Video Languages  Fortunately, the demonstration was clear enough wiho...
