How to Restore an old Belt - Jacques Vert Leather belt with a big, bold buckle. Outfit 444.

Image
The restored pink belt with the bold buckle. Photo by Angela Lansbury The pink Jacques Vert belt before restoration. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  The Caftan Needs A Belt I put on a caftan. It was too loose. Untidy. Firstly, it needed to be pulled in at the waist. Secondly, the caftan was too long. In danger of tripping me up. Looks like I am in a harem. Might get dirty around the hem from dragging on the ground. I thought: 'Why not cut if off and use the strip to make a hair band or belt?' Hm. I decided that I won't cut if off because sometimes I want a longer dress. The hem can hide socks or non matching shoes or sandals. The longer length might protect me from insects landing on my legs, ankles, feet. I can wrap it round my ankles to give me physical or psychological protection. I admit that it's a pity not to cut off the hem because my reluctance means I lose the opportunity to have a matching belt. But it's quicker just to find an existing belt. I wondered, 'D...

Red Eyelet Dress, caught my eye. Dress of the day 443

Image
Red eyelet dress 443. Selfie by Angela. Photo taken on a timer. The mobile phone was propped up on a work surface. I found this dress on eBay when I was searching for eyelet dresses. I prefer the old term, broderie anglaise, but eyelet is quicker to type.  I looked for red. I have white broderie anglaise already. My friend in Singapore wore a red broderie anglaise, then a blue one and I thought the fabric looked terrific on her. I love the colour red. Red, red, red! I was happily wearing a red dress at a toastmaster International lunchtime meeting at a business in Singapore. I thought I looked just right. The president of the club sidled up to me. With a sly smile, he asked, 'May I ask you a personal question?' I went hot and cold all over. What was he going to ask!  What had I done wrong? Did I smell funny? Was I showing my slip, or bra strap, or visible panty line? Were my shoes down at heel? Did I have a stain on my dress? Was my hair fly-away, badly cut? Did I stand round-...

Subject & Suppliers List, post Outfits 442 (dresses 1-441), Subjects: Animals, birds, fish, Insects, plants, scenery theme outfits and colours

My first post was on the butterfly caftan dress. No need to number it. I had no plans to do any more until I got dozens of likes on Facebook, and captions. I began listing dress of the day in numerical order from the first dress, the one with the butterfly, onwards, after it became clear that people were saying, 'I liked the red dress - where did you get it?', when I had posts on two different red dresses. If only I had started on January the first, the first 30 outfits would have corresponded to the dates. How To Number Updates? The next decision to be made was what to do about updates. Should I update the original posting, or write a new one? When I revised and updated yesterday's post by adding the website of a supplier, I simply updated the information without saying I had done so. Occasionally, I would add a footnote, 'Updated on ... (date)'. For example, I would mention that the information was updated if I reported briefly and importantly that a company had ...

Pineapple Pattern Pyjamas, (outfit 441), converted into a trouser suit by adding what?

Image
Pineapple Pyjamas by Damart. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Almost invisible are the five pretty, pearly buttons, in an unusual flower shape with six scalloped petals. Each button has two holes for sewing. One pocket. Pattern, yellow pineapples, green leaves, green background dots on white background. Green edging on collar, placket and pocket (not on sleeves). The label has soft edges. The washing label says 100 % cotton, keep away from fire, wash similar colours together, Large.. hand wash at 40 degrees, do not tumble dry, iron on two dots temperature,  The Pineapple Pattern I love the pineapple pattern.  It makes a change from flowers. I am tired of flower pattern pyjamas.  Cartoons and brand names and pictures of toys and bears look like I am a 5 year old, or in my second childhood. Or a teenager. Or a college student. I want something sophisticated, oriental, a summery pattern because of the short-sleeves, meaning the outfit is to wear on holiday, in summer,...

Dogged, dog-eared, dog puppet, dog toy, dog pattern blouse, dress of the day 438, 440

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing dog pattern blouse with dog puppets. Photo by Sharot Family. I was so pleased with my sheep picture, where I am wearing an apron showing sheep, and added a sheep puppet and sheep night dress case, that as soon as I saw a dog themed pattern on a blouse in a shop I decided to copy the image of multiple dogs.  The Sheep picture which inspired my dog picture. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Dog Puppets And Toys A look, a rummage, though my tote bags of puppets and displays of soft toys produced three dogs. A dog puppet. A small dog toy. A large soft toy dog. At first I just held all three in my arms. Then I thought, if the puppet dog is a puppet, I should wear it on my hand.  I held it out sideways, as I would hold out my hand welcomingly, if not wearing a puppet. That had the effective effect of making it look as if the puppet is peering out. Oops, my shoes don't match. No time to change - we are going out to a barbecue. I shall hide the shoes by putting th...

Dress 439, eagle-eyed viewers admire this eagle theme USA hat, or how about an apron

Image
USA baseball cap showing the stars and stripes flag, and the eagle. Photo by Angela Lansbury I like the way the letters USA contain the US flag.  Why is the eagle chosen? It is a sign of strength. The Romans had the eagle as their symbol. The eagle chosen is an American eagle, also known as the bald eagle. On the back of the cap is another US theme picture. So you can be seen with the theme from any angle. The brim is wide. So, if you don't want to be in a photo, on Facebook or anywhere else, like the owner of this hat, when a photographer starts snapping, just look down. You can buy on Amazon a US flag patch which can be sewn on or ironed on to a cap, tee-shirt, or bag. It costs about 3 dollars. I get free postage because I am a member of Amazon prime. (You can also buy a UK flag, costing a bit more, and other national flags.) An eagle and flag washable apron is about 21 US dollars, plus postage. I prefer a wipe clean apron, which is a bit stiff. But if you prefer washable,...

438 Dogged dresser, dressed in dog theme blouse. Dress of the day 438

Image
Angela Lansbury in dog theme blouse. Photo by Sharot family. A year ago I would not have bought a blouse or any garment featuring dogs. I would be afraid that dog lovers would approach me and ask, 'Do you have a dog?' When I admitted that I didn't, they might lose interest, or feel that I was misleading them, pretending to be an animal lover when I was not.  (My excuse being that I travel too much to own pets.) The conversation might simply go nowhere, or a potentially friendly conversation might come to a halt. However, my sheep pictures with the sheep apron is one of my favourites. I wear my sheep apron every day. Nobody asks me if I keep sheep. If anybody asks me if I have a dog, I shall reply, 'I shall answer that tomorrow' when I wear my dress with the elephant, my jacket with the giraffes, and my hat with the eagle'.  Blouse Dog theme. Bought from St Luke's charity shop. Cuffs, seamed, with no opening nor buttons. Label, brand Tu, size 14. Tu means y...
